Business Intelligence Analyst

Job Summary / Purpose:

• The role holder is responsible for making use of tools to analyse data and report on business operations. The holder will be required to engage with business teams regularly to identify and document requirements on opportunities for automation through better use of data and analytics. The role holder will also be required to use low code analytics tools to create quick solutions centred around organisational data and deliver self-service solutions for business users.

Key accountabilities/Deliverables/Outcomes

• Engage business stakeholders to understand business requirements, create and validate use cases, user stories and wireframes.
• Participate in business initiatives to provide insights on opportunities for automation and enhanced data use.
• Prepare project plans to support analytics and automation projects.
• Manage business intelligence projects using agile to deliver value to stakeholders.
• Create, maintain, and use low code data tools to respond to business ad-hoc data requests.
• Assess, respond, and log cases assigned to them by the data Helpdesk from time to time.
• Design and refine reports and dashboards to solve business use cases using bank approved low code solutions.
• Develop data collection tools using PowerApps, SharePoint and other development platforms standardize ingestion of data in support of data led business solution.
• Work with Developers to create and maintain complex analytics solutions by providing clear business requirements and rallying stakeholders to test and approve results.
• Develop and maintain documentation/manuals on reports, dashboards, and portals.
• Carry out regular user training to enable users extract insights from data solutions.
• Train business power users on basic data visualization and data literacy skills for no code solutions.
• Develop training solutions for end users and junior analysts on use of BI tools and solutions.
• Review Requirements document and low code solutions developed by junior analysts for consistency and alignment to Absa standards.
• Undertake research and development and actively challenge status quo with ideas to improve operations and existing solutions deployed by colleagues.
• Identify and escalate data quality issues to the governance team for action.

Preferred Qualification

• Bachelor’s degree in IT, technology, data science, business analytics or math focused fields is preferred (or equivalent on-the-job experience and personal analytics projects).
• Technology project management certification

Preferred Experience      

• Minimum 5 years technical experience
• Experience in working within a large complex organization with multiple stakeholders.

Technical Competency

• Low Code Analytics- Ability to use low code or no code visual intelligence and data analysis tools such as PowerBI, Tableau, QlikView, Power Query, IDEA, SharePoint, PowerApps to create business solutions.
• Query language proficiency- Knowledge of query languages such as SQL, Hive, Pig, and the ability to write efficient queries to extract, transform, and load data from relational and non-relational databases.
• Scripting and object-oriented programming skills- Proficiency in scripting languages such as Python, PhP, R, or Perl, and knowledge of object-oriented programming concepts.
• Data Warehouse management- Proficiency in creating views, tables, procedures, dimensions and working with Kimball marts and tabular models to create reusable data artefacts in Warehouse.
• Streaming Data Analytics- Proficiency in working with streaming data from KAFKA, Hadoop, API to ingest, analyze and output data through API or into warehouses in support of data solutions.
• Structured and unstructured Data analysis- Proficiency in analyzing data from both structured and unstructured data sources through use of Warehouse artefacts or API and NLP to develop solutions for business.
• Agile Project management- Ability to manage projects and develop technology solutions in Agile way and using agile tools to monitor progress.
• Workflow data analysis- Ability to use workflow-based data tools such as Knime, Alteryx, SSIS for data blending, cleansing, analysis, creation of data pipelines and algorithms in support of business solutions.

Education

• Higher Diplomas: Business, Commerce and Management Studies (Required)
