    Chief Agricultural Officer (5 Positions)

    VACANCY No. 02/PROM/2023/07

    Requirements for Appointment

    • Served in the grade of Senior Agricultural Officer, for at least three (3) years;
    • Bachelor of Science degree in any of the following fields: - Food Science, Agriculture and Home Economics, Agriculture, Horticulture, Agricultural Economics, Natural Resource Management, Agribusiness management, Agriculture and Human Ecology soil science and land use management, Agriculture Extension, Agricultural Education, Biotechnology or any other relevant and equivalent qualification from a recognized institution;
    • Attended a Senior Management Course lasting not less than four (4) weeks from a recognized institution;
    • Certificate in computer application from a recognized institution; 
    • Demonstrated a high degree of administrative capability, technical and professional competence; and
    • Shown merit and ability as reflected in work performances and results.

    Duties and Responsibilities

    • Participate in organizing technical workshops, seminars, and agricultural shows;
    • Preparing technical papers and reports for professional forums; 
    • Maintaining agriculture database; 
    • Providing technical advice in crop production, horticulture, agribusiness and home economics; 
    • Promoting economic agriculture activities; 
    • Organizing extension activities which include field days, agricultural shows, field demonstrations, farmer field schools and farm visits; 
    • Managing and operating plant clinics; 
    • Participating in collaborative research activities;
    • Disseminating agriculture production technologies such as green house, conservation agriculture, agroforestry, compost making, multi storey gardens, farm planning, gross margin analysis; 
    • Implementing agriculture production programmes /projects in areas such as maize, potatoes, pyrethrum, coffee, tea, fruits and vegetables and other emerging and traditional high value crops and capturing, maintaining and storing crops data; 
    • Value addition and utilization of all the crops; 
    • Implementing agriculture and nutrition sensitive programmes; 
    • Advising farmers on group formation; and 
    • Participating in monitoring and evaluation of agriculture programmes.
