    Chief Nursing Officer

    Duties & Responsibilities: 

    • Leadership and Management: The CNO is responsible for leading and managing the nursing department, ensuring that it operates efficiently and effectively. This includes setting goals, developing policies and procedures, managing budgets, and overseeing staffing levels. 
    • Strategic Planning: The CNO plays a crucial role in developing and implementing the strategic vision for nursing services. They collaborate with other members of the executive team to align nursing goals with the overall organizational objectives. 
    • Quality Improvement: The CNO is responsible for ensuring high-quality patient care by implementing evidence-based practices, monitoring quality indicators, and promoting continuous improvement in nursing processes. 
    • Staff Development: The CNO is responsible for fostering professional growth and development among nursing staff. This includes providing opportunities for education, training, mentorship, and career advancement 
    • Collaboration: The CNO collaborates with other healthcare professionals, including physicians, administrators, and allied health professionals to promote interdisciplinary teamwork and enhance patient outcomes. 
    • Regulatory Compliance and Quality Initiatives/Projects: The CNO ensures that nursing services comply with all applicable regulatory standards, such as those set by state licensing boards or accrediting bodies like The Joint Commission, ISO amongst others. 
    • Patient Advocacy: As a patient advocate, the CNO ensures that patients receive safe, compassionate, and culturally sensitive care. They work to improve patient satisfaction by addressing concerns or complaints related to nursing services. 
    • Research and Innovation: The CNO promotes research initiatives within the nursing department to advance evidence-based practice and drive innovation in patient care delivery. 
    • Community Engagement: The CNO represents the organization in community forums or professional organizations to promote awareness of nursing services and build relationships with stakeholders. 
    • Overall, the Chief Nursing Officer plays a critical role in shaping the delivery of high-quality patient care, promoting nursing excellence, and ensuring the overall success of the nursing department within a healthcare organization. 

    Qualifications & Requirements 

    • At least fifteen (15) years of experience with at least 10 years in general nursing supervisory with additional three (3-5) years in a leadership role in an acute care hospital 
    • Registration Certificate Issued by the Nursing Council of Kenya 
    • Valid practicing license from the Nursing Council of Kenya 
    • Computer literacy, Presentation Skills, Communication and People Skills 
    • Certificate in a strategic leadership development programme lasting not less than six (6) weeks from a recognized institution 
    • Demonstrated high degree of professional competence and administrative capability as well as broad experience in Nursing and Healthcare Standards and Programmes 
    • Master’s degree in any Nursing Discipline, relevant social science or Business Administration. 
    • Bachelor’s Degree in nursing or Midwifery from a recognized institution 

    OR

    • Post Basic Diploma in any of the following Disciplines Kenya Registered Community Health Nursing, Registered Anaesthetic Nursing, Kenya Registered Psychiatric Nursing, Kenya registered Peri-operative Nursing, Kenya Registered Ophthalmology Nursing, Kenya Registered Paediatric Nursing, Kenya Registered Critical Care Nursing, Kenya Registered Accident & Emergency Nursing, Kenya Registered Neonatal Nursing, Kenya Registered Nephrology Nursing or Kenya Registered Palliative Nursing from a recognised institution 

    OR

    • Diploma in advanced Nursing in any of the following disciplines Nursing Education, Psychology, Nursing Administration, Community Health Nursing, Mental Health and Psychiatric Nursing or clinical care from a recognised institution
