Child Development and Disability Experts Opportunity at Whole Family Collective

• Are you an experienced professional in child development, disability, mental health, or family support? We are looking for people like you to join Whole Family Collective's Core Curriculum Adaptation Team, the group leading the adaptation of the World Health Organization's evidence-based Caregiver Skills Training (CST) package for Kenyan families of children with developmental delays or disabilities.
• From this team, a smaller group will train as Master Trainers, leading CST delivery, facilitator training and quality assurance. Core Curriculum Adaptation Team members are engaged for approximately six months; Master Trainers selected from the group will be engaged in the programme through Year 1.
• As part of this team, you will help translate a globally validated intervention into practice for Kenyan families: reviewing and critiquing the CST materials, contributing your expertise alongside a multidisciplinary group, working through stakeholder consultations, and helping test and refine the adapted package through a pre-pilot phase.

Key responsibilities

Core Curriculum Adaptation Team

• Undertake a detailed individual review and analysis of the CST training materials.
• Identify linguistic, cultural and contextual considerations relevant to adapting the package for Kenya.
• Participate in adaptation workshops and work collaboratively to reach consensus on proposed adaptations.
• Contribute expertise on child development, mental health, disability, caregiving and/or the Kenyan service and community context.
• Contribute to stakeholder consultations with caregivers, service providers and other relevant stakeholders.
• Help identify and address barriers to participation and implementation.
• Contribute to the adaptation of examples, terminology, activities and other materials where appropriate.
• Participate in the pre-pilot field test of the adapted CST package.
• Support observation, feedback collection and documentation of the pre-pilot.
• Contribute to decisions about whether and how the adapted CST package can be implemented within existing services and community settings.

Master Trainers

• Participate in CST Master Trainer training.
• Develop a strong working knowledge of the CST package and its core components.
• Participate in supervised practice to develop CST training and facilitation competency.
• Deliver the CST program directly to caregiver groups, leading facilitation of sessions.
• Train additional CST facilitators during the broader rollout.
• Lead facilitator supervision and fidelity monitoring.
• Provide technical support and mentorship to CST facilitators.
• Contribute to monitoring implementation quality and caregiver outcomes during Year 1.

Essential

• A relevant university degree and professional experience in the fields mentioned above.
• Experience working with children with developmental delays or disabilities and their families.
• Knowledge of child development, mental health, disability, or caregiver/family support.
• Strong understanding of the Kenyan cultural and community context.
• Fluency in English and Kiswahili.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
• Ability to review and critically engage with structured training materials.
• Ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team and contribute constructively to consensus-based decision-making.
• Availability to participate consistently throughout the adaptation and pre-pilot process.

Desirable

• Experience delivering parenting, caregiver, psychosocial, disability or early childhood interventions.
• Experience training, mentoring or supervising other professionals, community workers or facilitators.
• Experience working with community-based programmes or non-specialist service delivery.
• Experience in programme adaptation, implementation research or implementation of evidence-based interventions.
• Experience conducting or contributing to focus groups, interviews or other qualitative consultations.

Time commitment

• This is a project-based, part-time opportunity and not a full-time employment position. Exact dates and time commitments will be communicated to shortlisted candidates.

Compensation

• Successful candidates will be compensated for agreed project activities and time commitments. Successful candidates will also be required to complete a background/police clearance check prior to engagement, given the nature of this work with children and families.
