    Clinical Officer-Oncology

    Overall Responsibility

    • The Clinical Officer Oncology will support the diagnosis, planning, and administration of cancer treatments while closely monitoring patient progress.

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Conduct detailed medical histories and physical exams focused on oncology cases.
    • Assist in performing diagnostic procedures, such as biopsies and interpreting imaging studies, in collaboration with the Medical Oncologist.
    • Stage cancer and develop initial assessments to aid in treatment planning.
    • Administer chemotherapy, immunotherapy, and other oncology treatments under established protocols and supervision.
    • Monitor treatment responses and side effects, and adjust regimens as necessary, in consultation with the Medical Oncologist.
    • Offer comprehensive education to patients and their families regarding cancer, treatment options, and what to expect during the treatment process.
    • Guide patients through coping mechanisms and psychosocial support to help manage emotional stress related to cancer diagnosis and treatment.
    • Develop and implement individualized care plans, ensuring timely follow-ups, lab tests, and imaging to track patient progress.
    • Coordinate referrals for specialized care or advanced diagnostic tests as required.
    • Collaborate with the multidisciplinary team, including nurses, pharmacists, palliative care teams, surgeons, oncologists and radiologists, to optimize patient care.
    • Assist in the management of patients receiving palliative care, focusing on improving quality of life through symptom control.
    • Participate in public health awareness campaigns and outreach programs to sensitize communities on cancer related issues.
    • Support research initiatives and clinical trials related to cancer treatments.

    Qualifications

    • Diploma or Degree in Clinical Medicine and Surgery
    • Higher National Diploma in Clinical Oncology and Palliative Care
    • Valid Practicing License from the Clinical Officers’ Council
