    General Manager

    JOB SUMMARY

    Responsible for directing the activities of high-end, fast paced, market leading hospitality business unit to achieve the highest standards, in accordance with the set operational goals and profitability objectives. Areas of focus include but not limited to financial performance and planning, guest and employee satisfaction, human resources, and talent management as well as conferencing and events planning and marketing.

    Operations

    • Efficient operation and cost control.
    • A visible presence for guests and employees alike.
    • Ensure all departments and aspects of the operation run smoothly and meet the company’s values.
    • Develop products and services and ensure they are communicated to relevant departments and offices to ensure communication to potential and existing customers.
    • Develop business strategies, including new business opportunities.
    • Contribute to short and long-term organizational planning and strategy and drive Company initiatives.
    • Establish standards for guests, administration and Health and Safety.
    • Meet clients, respond to guests’ feedback and resolve problems.
    • Monitor current trends & concepts and make recommendations to his/her superiors for appropriate implementation at the hotel.
    • Monitor the price-to-value ratio of the hotel and introduces changes where and when necessary.
    • Ensure that an up to date “Manager on Duty” manual is maintained to assist department heads with effective emergency procedures in the event of fires, injuries, death and to handle any other crisis situation that may arise at the property
    • Chair daily morning briefings.
    • Chair weekly management meetings and submits to the COO hospitality the minutes.
    • Chair quarterly departmental meetings with all line associates.

    Finance

    • Agree the budget, resources, fixed overheads and materials with the Finance team.
    • Responsible for compliance with the contractual and legal obligations of the business, ensuring that the business is compliant with the Company’s policies.
    • Control daily/weekly/monthly performance criteria for financial analysis and planning.
    • Control capital expenditure (CAPEX).
    • Ensure that appropriate systems and controls are in place and able to produce regular and accurate information Analyses the daily operation of the hotel to determine more productive and cost-effective ways of providing services at the established quality levels.
    • Reviews account receivables on a regular basis to ensure timely collection
    • Reviews the monthly financial results of the property, prepares supporting commentary and submits a report to the COO Hospitality.
    • Chair Monthly Credit Meetings and send minutes to COO hospitality.

    Human Resources Management

    • Planning of staff resources to achieve the best utilization, ensuring productivity and a positive staff relations culture.
    • To maintain the Learning and Development culture of developing raw talent into highly successful careers in all areas.
    • Participate in the recruitment of new key employees, monitoring of staffing levels and payroll costs.
    • Manage, motivate and develop the team and individuals to ensure they achieve their potential and that performance contributes to the achievement of business objectives.
    • Ensure all staff has the relevant training and certification required for working in their area of work.
    • Provide advice, guidance and directly manage all Department Heads.
    • Ensure that all associates’ training and development programs are implemented and successfully accomplished.
    • Responsible for maintaining labor hours and manpower levels, as dictated by business trends and local practices.
    • Reviews department heads performance every quarter.

    Sales & Marketing, Guest and Public Relations.

    • Represent the business and the Company in a positive and productive manner to guests, colleagues and the community (locally and internationally).
    • To attend events and act as an ambassador for company.
    • Liaise regularly with key providers of business to the hotel to create and maintain positive relationships.
    • Be aware of market position compared to competitors and ensure that plans are developed to maintain or improve that position as necessary and to maximize revenue.
    • Approves all sales contracts, after having obtained approval from COO hospitality.
    • Participates in the negotiation of trading contracts.
    • Regularly monitors sales and marketing strategy, programs and production
    • Oversees the preparation of regular market segmentation reports, demonstrating actual performance against budget and plan.

    Health, Safety, Security and Environment

    • Ensure the proper maintenance of the facilities resulting in employee and guest safety and security, orderly operations, good appearance, legislative compliance, suitable working conditions and cost control.
    • Responsible for effective and pro-active management and development of the Company’s Health, Safety and Welfare procedures, ensuring that the business is totally compliant with current and future legislation

    Requirements

    • Bachelor’s degree in Hospitality Management.
    • Minimum of six (8) years’ experience in a similar Hospitality Management role
    • Demonstrable experience in driving service excellence
    • Strong communication, financial and people management skills.
    • Excellent knowledge of food & beverage operations with high turn over.
