    Corporation Secretary

    Minimum Qualification and Experience
    For appointment to this grade, a candidate must have: -

    • Master of Law/Social Sciences Degree from accredited and recognized Institution;
    • Must be a certified secretary (CS)
    • Membership of the Institute of Certified Secretary of Kenya and in good standing;
    • Three (3) years experience as a Corporation Secretary or in a similar position in the public sector.
    • Certificate in leadership course lasting not less than four weeks from a recognized institution will be an added advantage.
    • Proficiency in computer applications;
    • Demonstrated merit and ability as reflected in work performance and results.

    Duties and Responsibilities at this level will entail:-

    • An officer at this level will be responsible to the Vice Chancellor who is the University Secretary for:
    • iProvide guidance on the Council on their duties and responsibilities and on the matter of governance;
    • Assist the Council in carrying out the following;
      • Council induction and training,
      • Updating the Council and Committee Charters,
      • Preparation of Council work plans,
      • Council Evaluation,
      • Governance Audit,
      • Implementation of Code of Conduct and Ethics.
    • Ensure the timely preparation and circulation of Council and Committee papers;
    • Ensure the timely preparation and circulation of Council and Committee minutes;
    • Be the custodian of the seal of the Institution and account to the Council for its use;
    • Maintain and update the register of the conflicts of interest;
    • Ensure that Council members are aware of all relevant laws affecting the Institution;
    • Facilitate effective communication between the Institution and Stakeholders;
    • Ensure that annual returns and promptly filed with the relevant authorities; and
    • Except in exceptional circumstances, ensure that Board and Committee papers are circulated in advance of any meeting.

    • Higher Education Loans Board,
    • Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission,
    • Directorate of Criminal Investigation (Certificate of Good Conduct),
    • Registered Credit Reference Bureau

    Applicants should provide names, telephone numbers and contact addresses of three (3) referees and request their referees to send their confidential reports to recruitment@au.ac.ke or addressed to the undersigned to be received on or before 9th June, 2025.
    Five hard copies should be sent by post or hand delivery to the Administration Registry at the Assistant Registrar (Human Resource and Administration) office and a soft copy in PDF format of the application documents with the reference numbers of the positions applied for clearly indicated, should be sent to recruitment@au.ac.ke.
