    Country Director – KE

    Overview

    The Country Director will provide overall leadership, strategic direction, and operational oversight for inSupply’s country operations. The role oversees all practice domains—Supply Chain Transformation, Workforce Optimization, Market Access & Shaping, and Data Transformation, Intelligence & Impact—ensuring a collaborative, synergistic approach to implementation and expansion.. The Country Director is responsible for strategic decision-making; stakeholder engagement; financial sustainability; risk management; quality assurance; team development; and ensuring that all domains and functions operate in alignment with inSupply’s mission, strategy, and standards.

    The ideal candidate is a proven global health leader with strong strategic thinking, business development acumen, operational excellence, systems thinking capability and a track record of managing teams and significant portfolios.  The Country Director must demonstrate the ability to translate organizational vision into robust operational systems that drive performance, accountability, responsiveness, and excellence.The Country Director will represent inSupply internally and externally, strengthen our market presence and brand, and contribute significantly to the organization’s growth and sustainability.

    Responsibilities:

    Strategic Leadership and Country Oversight

    • Provide overall leadership and strategic direction for all domains and enabling functions.
    • Ensure all practice areas align with organizational goals, strategies, and standards of excellence.
    • Lead strategic and business planning, including decisions on investments, partnerships, and operational priorities.
    • Promote innovation, learning, accountability, and continuous improvement across the country portfolio.

    Operational Oversight and Management

    • Oversee Regional Managers and ensure effective program and functional performance management across all domains.
    • Build and maintain efficient, quality, responsive operational systems.
    • Drive implementation of country-specific plans, performance targets, and operational frameworks.
    • Build systems that reinforce accountability, follow-up, and performance culture

    Financial Management and P&L Accountability

    • Hold full P&L responsibility for the country office
    • Ensure financial sustainability, revenue growth, and sound cost control.
    • Oversee budgeting, financial performance tracking, cash flow management, financial compliance, and forecasting
    • Ensure financial decisions apply an ROI and opportunity-cost mindset

    Business Development and Donor Engagement

    • Lead business development strategy and execution.
    • Demonstrate strong track record of securing funding from at least two different donors.
    • Manage portfolios funded by 3–5 different donors or funders.
    • Strengthen inSupply’s brand and market positioning.

    Partnership, Representation, and Stakeholder Engagement

    • Build and maintain strong, strategic relationships with ministries of health, donor agencies, implementing partners, and other key stakeholders.
    • Represent inSupply in national forums, technical working groups, expert panels, and other external engagements.
    • Strengthen inSupply’s brand, reputation, and visibility within the country and region.

    Risk Management, Quality Assurance, and Compliance

    • Identify, evaluate, and mitigate strategic, operational, and reputational risks.
    • Ensure compliance with organizational policies, donor rules, and local regulatory frameworks.
    • Establish and oversee quality assurance systems to maintain high technical and operational standards.

    Team Leadership, Development, and Culture (*)

    • Lead, mentor, and support Regional Managers and senior staff to build a high-performing, motivated team.
    • Oversee team growth through talent development and retention, and professional development strategies, ensuring excellence and productivity.
    • Foster a culture of collaboration, accountability, responsiveness, innovation, and continuous learning
    • Ensure team adherence to the organizational culture, attributes and values.

    Performance Monitoring and Reporting

    • Monitor progress across all domains and enabling functions using KPIs and strategic objectives.
    • Ensure timely reporting to the CEO, senior management, and external stakeholders.
    • Use data-driven insights to inform and adjust strategy and decisions

    Qualifications:

    • Bachelor’s degree in Social Sciences, Physical Sciences, Natural Sciences, Business Management, or a related discipline from a recognized university.
    • Master’s degree in Business Administration, Public Health, Supply Chain Management, or related field.
    • Completion of a Strategic Leadership Development and Management Programme of at least six weeks.
    • Minimum 12 years’ experience in senior leadership roles within global health or development, with significant health system, supply chain management or market expansion experience.
    • 3-5 years experience as a Director with a portfolio covering strategic, technical, budget and people oversight highly preferred. Demonstrated excellence in strategic planning, P&L management, stakeholder engagement, and team leadership required.
    • Strong experience building and growing MOH relationships and networks across Kenya’s health ecosystem, and working with sub-national governments, and the international donor community (bilateral, multilateral, foundations).
    • Demonstrated capacity to generate new business, with awards from at least two different types of donors, complemented by experience managing diverse donor-funded portfolios.
    • Strong technical expertise with ability to learn new technical content quickly and unify diverse technical areas into strategy. Strong experience supporting implementation in complex operational environments.
    • Proven ability to lead, mentor, and build the capacity of diverse teams.
    • Proven systems thinker with experience building accountability and performance systems.
    • Strong financial acumen, entrepreneurial mindset, and understanding of project-based funding and cost recovery.
    • Excellent communication, negotiation, analytical, and decision-making skills.
    • Demonstrated ability to thrive in dynamic, high-growth environments.
