    Design Engineer (Wood)

    About the role
    BURN is seeking a highly motivated and skilled Design Engineer to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of mechanical design principles, experience using SolidWorks, and proficiency in Design for Experimentation (DOE) and Design for Manufacturing (DFM) methodologies. They will also have excellent analytical skills and the ability to work independently and as part of a team.

    Duties and Responsibilities

    • Conceptual and detailed design of improved cookstoves and accessories
    • Plastic part design for injection moulding
    • Research and developing manufacturing processes including designing tools for production.
    • Fabrication of prototypes, including sheet metal forming, 3D printing and others
    • Testing concepts and prototypes in the lab and field

    Skills and Experience

    • Engineering, product development, or industrial design background.
    • Experience working in the conceptual phase, physical prototyping, hands-on testing and user interaction.
    • Ability to independently initiate and implement design and development of product features and production processes.
    • Good command of CAD software; Solidworks.
    • Fluency with a wide range of manufacturing processes, Plastic injection moulding, sheet metal forming.
    • Good understanding of material; Metals and plastics.
    • Familiar with basic tool shop equipment and tools, such as drill press, mill, lathe, etc.
    • Capable to manage workload and priorities of all assigned projects.
    • Project documentation skills.
    • Goal-oriented
    • Fluent in English

    Ideal Candidate:

    • Mechanical aptitude, understanding of product and process development.
    • Experience in tooling, jigs, and fixtures design.
    • Experience with sheet metal plastic part design
    • Works well in a team setting
    • Practical working experience
    • Preference for experience with CNC, sheet metal, production environments, or process development.
