    Director, Environment and Engineering Geology

    Duties and Responsibilities
    Duties and responsibilities will include:-

    • Developing, implementing and reviewing policies, strategies, standards and guidelines on Environmental and Engineering Geology;
    • Planning, designing and undertaking geo-hazards mapping across the country;
    • Conducting geotechnical investigations;
    • Conducting geo-environmental studies;
    • Establishing, operating and maintaining National Seismological Network (NSN) for monitoring seismic activity in Kenya and the region in liaison with other related agencies;
    • Providing regular updated data on potential geo-hazardous areas;
    • Creating and maintain linkages with relevant disaster management units;
    • Ensuring quality assurance on Environmental and Engineering Geology; and
    • Preparing and submit periodic reports

    For appointment to this grade, a candidate must have:

    • Served for a minimum period of ten years (10), three (3) of which should  have been in the grade of Assistant Director/Chief Superintending Geologist (Geological Survey), CSG ‘7’ and above or in a comparable and relevant position in the wider public service or private sector;
    • A Bachelor of Science (BSc.) degree in any of the following disciplines: Geology, Engineering Geology, Geophysics, Geochemistry, Environmental Geology or any other equivalent qualification from a university recognized in Kenya;
    • A Master’s Degree in any of the following disciplines: - Geology, Applied Geology, Engineering Geology, Geophysics, Geochemistry, Environmental Geology, Environmental Science, Geo-information Management, Nuclear Science, Petroleum Geochemistry, Hydrogeology or equivalent qualification from a university recognized in Kenya; 
    • A Professional membership with Geological Society of Kenya;
    • A Registration by the Geologists Registration Board; 
    • Demonstrated professional competence and high administrative ability in geological survey and mineral research affairs;
    • Exhibit a good understanding of the National goals, policies and development objectives and ability to translate them into environmental and engineering geology, development policies and programmes in geological data and information in relation to other areas of operation; 
    • The ability to articulate, interpret and implement national and international policies and goals; and
    • Demonstrated managerial and high degree of professional competence in work performance
