    Director- Market Development, East Africa, Humanitarian and Development

    Overview

    The Humanitarian and Development (H&D) team is looking for a Director-Market Development, East Africa to drive our Community Pass strategic growth in East Africa by consistently innovating and problem-solving with our customers. The ideal candidate is passionate about market development, highly motivated, intellectually curious, analytical, and possesses an entrepreneurial mindset.  

    Community Pass is a social impact business at Mastercard that enables delivery of critical services to underserved, remote, and frequently offline communities. The Community Pass digital platform leverages a functional identity, a shared wallet, a digital acceptance device, and a safe and secure data platform to enable digital life transactions. Through Community Pass, service providers can more effectively reach underserved populations to provide education, humanitarian aid, micro-commerce, and healthcare services, and enable smallholder farmers with access to agricultural markets and financial services. By so doing, we go well beyond Mastercard’s traditional payments remit, and critically, increase our reach to the 1+ billion previously unserved consumers at the Base of Pyramid (BOP).

    Role

    The essential responsibilities of the position entails the following:-

    • Drive Market development initiatives by scaling existing Community Pass deployment and  sourcing new relationships and customers in East Africa. 
    • Plan , identify and execute on country and region specific market deployment plans including strategies to drive customer acquisition, solution usage,  and growth of acceptance points for Community Pass. 
    • Establish , enhance and maintain strategic business development relationships with customers, government , industry bodies, regulators for existing, new or emerging Community Pass product opportunities
    • Develop and present financial modelling and business cases for Community Pass opportunities to H&D Management team. 
    • Negotiate, execute and manage the customer contract agreement process 
    • Manage the East Africa Community Pass P&L by ensuring revenue generation from our deployment. 
    • Evaluate and enhance the deal process to deliver efficiencies and improved success rates
    • Manage country specific deployment teams drawn from different partners engaged. 

    All About You

    The ideal candidate for this position should have: -

    • Extensive experience with business development strategy and execution in complex and international countries/regions
    • Extensive track record in achieving business development targets and building customer relationships through customer sales
    • Experience supervising, developing and coaching business development teams to serve complex countries/regions
    • Demonstrated success in introducing existing and new/emerging solutions into various MasterCard countries/regions and driving increased penetration with clients
    • Experience working
    • in the East Africa region, rolling out digital products for the base of the pyramid across segment such as Agriculture, MSME, Payments etc
