    Director of Training Development and Delivery

    About the role

    As BOMA grows, scaling involves implementation via new strategic partnerships with NGOs and governments, entering into new geographic areas, responding to the needs of new target populations (youth, refugees, urban contexts), and integrating new program modifications as a result. BOMA is committed to ensuring its adapted programs continue to result in high rates of graduation into resilience. In support of this, BOMA is dedicated to continuous improvement and innovation in its delivery of training to staff, implementing partners, and the communities it serves. In this context, BOMA is recruiting a Training Director to design, deliver, evaluate, and adapt BOMA’s training offerings – both internally and externally – to respond to evolving needs and integrate innovation for greater effectiveness and efficiency

    The Training Director will lead the design, delivery, and adaptation of high-quality learning events, curricula, and professional development that build the capacity of BOMA’s staff and partners to deliver highly effective graduation programming. The successful candidate will offer a depth of experience across cultures in curriculum design, adult learning approaches including in low/no literacy contexts, virtual learning platforms, and in-person and virtual facilitation techniques. S/he will be responsible for strengthening systems for the continuous analysis of learning needs and revision of training offerings in response to gaps as well as testing and scaling innovations that improve responsiveness and effectiveness.

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Lead a team of BOMA training staff and partners to design and deliver successful training and other capacity building events and processes. 
    • Collaborate with the Chief Program Officer’s team (Technical Director, Graduation and Livelihoods and Director, Monitoring and Evaluation) to design or adapt training materials and delivery mechanisms to respond to the needs of new implementing partners, donors, and contexts, as well as innovations in the Graduation Approach based on new evidence. 
    • Utilize applied learning techniques to design and review high-quality curricula, training, and workshop materials for skill-building and behavior change in response to identified needs.
    • Facilitate in-person and remote training events and other learning processes to build the capacity of BOMA and implementing partners’ staff to deliver high-quality trainings.
    • Collaborate with the Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning (MEL) department and IT to put in place and refine systems and tools to measure and track training outcomes and use feedback to inform continuous improvement of the responsiveness, effectiveness, and quality of training offerings. 
    • Define quality standards and conduct regular quality assurance checks on training delivery by BOMA and its partners in the field, providing feedback and follow-up support to ensure that teams understand and meet standards.
    • Identify and pursue the adoption of appropriate technological innovations including but not limited to video, radio, and Interactive Voice Response (IVR) to improve effectiveness, efficiency, and quality of training delivery and outcomes. 
    • Coordinate training and capacity building activities across projects, partners, and sites to ensure efficient use of training human resources.
    • Effectively manage talent, mentor and supervise training department staff.
    • Organize and maintain a master digital library of training curricula and materials.
    • Support the development of new projects by participating in project design workshops, proposal design, and providing key inputs such as writing relevant technical sections and supporting training budget development.
    • Other duties as assigned.

    Does this sound like you?

    • Master’s degree or equivalent education/work experience in a related field (i.e., organizational learning, adult education, international development, international or multicultural communication).
    • 7-10 years of full-time experience in international development or similar field, including 3-5 years as an internal or independent trainer or organizational learning practitioner.
    • Experience in organizational learning, training needs assessment, curriculum design, coaching, and/or related activities within the livelihoods, social protection, gender, resilience, last mile financial inclusion and/or health strongly programming areas preferred.
    • Skilled in applying and appropriately adapting organizational learning models and frameworks, across a variety of cultural and cross-cultural contexts.
    • Experience developing, reviewing, and adapting training/course material, facilitation guides, and learning assessments.
    • Demonstrated comfort, confidence, and effectiveness in providing training using applied learning and/or adult learning techniques to diverse learners in a broad variety of settings, including community-based, low resource and low literacy contexts. Proven ability to provide these services virtually.
    • Demonstrated ability to transfer knowledge and skills formally and informally, including effective delivery of cascade trainings.
    • Experience adapting training materials for use with e-learning platforms and/or other technologies (video, radio/audio, etc.).
    • Experience with design of training components within behavior change interventions.
    • Experience in incorporating innovative learning theories, new technologies, and methods into capacity building and training programs.
    • Excellent writing and communications skills in English and French (preferred). 
    • Attention to detail and ability to work as part of a multi-cultural, multi-disciplinary team, including remotely when required.
    • Ability to travel and to work independently, even in harsh environments with capability to manage a large workload and multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment with tight deadlines.
    • Highly organized team player, pro-active and with demonstrated strong personal initiative and decision-making ability.
