EO Engineer at agriBORA

Job description:

We are looking for an EO (Earth Observation) Engineer to join our team and support the development and implementation of EO based data products in the smallholder agricultural sector in Kenya. As an EO Engineer, you will be responsible for conceptualizing, implementing and testing our various data products. You will also be responsible for validating these data products on-site and provide feedback to the team. You will use state-of-the-art machine learning methods to harness the maximum amount of information from the various satellite data sources we are using in our processing pipelines to ensure we always exceed our user requirements.

Your role and responsibilities:

• Develop and implement EO based data products using various satellite data sources for crop mapping & monitoring, drought and pest/disease risk evaluation as well as farmer credit scoring
• Train and apply ML models to generate EO data products
• Validate data products on-site and provide feedback to the team
• Collaborate within our international team to ensure project success
• Other duties as assigned by the senior management team.

The ideal candidate will have the following qualifications and experience:

• Passion for our vision & mission: Sustainable livelihoods for African farmers through our SaaS platform
• Degree in Data Science, Machine Learning, Earth Observation or similar
• 2+ years of experience in the fields of EO/ML/data science
• Proficient ML experience
• Strong programming skills (specifically in Python)
• Experience with Big Data analysis
• Experience working with databases, specifically PostgreSQL
• Experience in remote collaboration on software projects
• Enjoys working collaboratively in a team, but can also work on tasks independently with a high sense of responsibility
• Structured working, motivated and highly self-driven
• Generalist who is willing to take up tasks outside own comfort zone
• Excellent written and verbal English skills to communicate with rest of our international development team
