JOB SUMMARY & PURPOSE:
The Field Officer shall report to the Project Manager and will be responsible for all project mobilization, planning, and implementation and monitoring of SBOSH-II activities with Smallholder sweet potato farmer groups and dairy Cooperatives in Siaya, Bungoma and Kakamega Counties.
The project is focusing on strengthening entrepreneurship skills of smallholder farmers in sweet potato and dairy value chains, though capacity building on VSLA methodology, Agripreneurship, financial literacy and business development skills. The field officer will coordinate profiling of target beneficiaries, supervise contracted CBOs and ensure delivery of quality services, manage partnership with stakeholders at County level and represent CARE Kenya at all County development forum, in consultation with the Project Manager.
Tasks and responsibilities.
R 1: Personnel, Management and Administration:
Task 1: Administer/maintain assigned motorcycle, computer and any other CARE properties assigned to you.
Task 2: Manage, utilize and account appropriately project finances under your custody i.e. project advances and TER.
R 2: Project Development and Implementation:
Task 1: Coordinate profiling of project beneficiaries in designated County.
Task 2: Conduct TOT training to CBO trainers on VSLA methodology and financial literacy skills.
Task 3: Conduct Agripreneurship and business development training to project beneficiaries.
Task 4: Conduct TOT training to CBO trainers on Concept and process of Business plan development.
Task 5: Supervise contracted CBOs and oversight CBTs to ensure delivery of quality services
Task 6: Enhance teamwork and synergy among and between SBOSH and other CARE Kenya programs, as well as Project partners.
Task 7: Coordinate and liaise with relevant County heads of departments relating to Enterprise development, Cooperatives and Social services, for sustainability in project implementation.
Task 8: Assist the Project Manager in designing and development of training modules, visual aids, participatory tools and other IEC materials.
Task 9: Assist the Project Manager in planning, coordination and execution of trainings to Implementing partners and Community Based Trainers.
Task 10: Participate in relevant networking forums at County level and other CARE organized functions.
Task 11: Prepare and Submit monthly activity updates, quarterly, biannual and annual reports to the Project Manager.
Task 12: Coordinate collection of monthly VSLA transactions and data upload to MIS-savix.
Task 13: Assist in rolling out of innovations identified by the project.
R.3 Program Quality and Learning
Task 1: Proactively engage in CARE Kenya knowledge and learning activities in line with the organization’s objective of becoming a learning organization (CARE academy, mentorship programs, International days, knowledge sharing workshops, support staff field visits, etc).
Task 2: Set at least one individual operating plan (IOP) to contribute to accountability and knowledge management in CARE Kenya.
Task 3: Assist the Project Manager in field data collection/research issues.
Task 4: Document and share MSC/Success stories quarterly, with the Project manager.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education:
Degree in Development studies/Sociology/Agriculture/Agribusiness, or Diploma in Community development/Social work with 5years experience on implementation of VSLA and Enterprise development.

WORKING CONDITIONS
This position will be based in either county of operation with travel to the project sites in the counties.
Contacts/Key Relationships (Internal/External)
Develop cordial contact and relationship with all CARE staff in the region and elsewhere and County Government (Ministries of Agriculture and Fisheries, Social Services, Cooperative development and County Administration), GIZ-GIAE partners and other Development partners.
