    Finance Officer

    Position Overview

    Educate! is seeking a Finance Officer to work in our finance department in Kenya. As a Finance Officer, you will be supporting Logistics, Procurement, Finance and administration tasks at Educate! She/he will be responsible for maintaining accounts records in compliance to Educate! procedures, the provision of logistical and administrative support, and other various operations projects within Educate Kenya. The role involves managing cash flows, mobile money platform and related funds reimbursement.

    The Finance Officer will work closely with the Finance Manager to provide Kenya monthly financials and BVAs (Budget Variance Analysis). He/she will also collaborate closely with the program team and the field staff to generate new ideas in finance. The Finance Officer will report to the Finance Manager.

    Performance Objectives

    Financial Accounting

    • Prepare journal vouchers and enter all journal entries in the accounting software, reconcile ledger accounts, produce daily transaction posting reports
    • Receiving and verifying invoices, requisitions, accountabilities, prepare vouchers, and reconcile staff advance account
    • You will be resposible for paying vendors, responding to finance inquiries, payment initiation for mobile money and supporting banking when necessary.
    • Maintain detailed records of supporting documentation for all payment transactions including bank reconciliations, cash and debit cards, accounts receivables and payables.

    Financial Reporting

    • Help in filing of statutory deductions, preparation of monthly financial and management reports including: income statement, balance sheet, budget and variance reports, projections and forecast
    • Support preparation of regional finance team reports and financials, minimizing the number of errors from the team through constant feedback and coordinate the preparation of the audited financial statements and all tax returns

    Budget Management

    • Take part in the preparation of periodic budgets and update the accounting system
    • Support the preparation of BvA reports and ensuring that they have clear explanations at month-end.
    • Support the budgeting process by offering periodic training or refresher training to the teams aimed at improving financial management, discipline and accountability as stipulated in our policies and procedures.

    Logistics

    • Support the Operations officer and program team to Coordinate training events as required, including but not limited to, pre-booking calls to venues, travel arrangement, providing supplies and materials, equipment and the point person at events.
    • Conduct periodic inventory checks of office assets and equipment and oversee repairs

    Qualifications

    • BCom, Accounting or Business Administration with proficiency in Ms Excel and Quickbooks.
    • At least CPA part II.
    • Finance & Accounting experience working in a non-profit environment.
    • 2 years of experience in finance and accounting auditing, and financial analysis (including gathering, evaluating, presenting, and reporting financial information to management and external stakeholders).
    • Solid experience in coordinating audit activities and managing reporting, budget development and analysis, accounts payable and receivable, general ledger, payroll taxes, and accounting.
    • Entrepreneurial drive, proven ability to take ownership, lead the team's combined learning and a collaborative, data-oriented approach to problem-solving.
