Fire Engine Driver at SonySugar Limited

Duties and responsibilities at this level will entail:

• To perform specialized functions in preparing and responding to fire/emergency calls;
• Driving the Fire Engine to the scene of fire;
• Laying and connecting hoses, holding nozzles and directing water streams, raising and climbing ladders, using extinguishers and other equipment;
• Assisting in rescue operations during emergencies;
• Operating appliances and communication equipment;
• Providing first responder actions to emergency medical and hazardous materials calls;
• Conducting fire prevention inspections in the workplace;
• Conducting fire safety, rescue and First Aid trainings to employees;
• Undertaking fire drills in the workplace;
• Completing fire safety inspection reports and maintaining vital incident information for investigative and record keeping purposes;
• Attending on duty training sessions and off site training courses as necessary;
• Inspecting and Maintaining the firefighting equipment and appliances in good repair in accordance with company policies and procedures;
• Carrying out routine checks on the fire truck to detect and report any malfunction of the fire truck system or components;
• Maintaining cleanliness of the fire truck;
• Carrying out other duties relating to your job description as assigned by the fire safety supervisor.

Job Specification

• KCSE or its equivalent qualification
• Craft Certificate in Fire Management or Fire and Rescue Management or other equivalent qualifications from a recognized institution.
• First Aid certificate course preferably from St. Johns Ambulance, Red-Cross or any other recognized institution.
• Five (5) years’ experience as a fire engine operator/driver.
• Valid driving license BCE
• Physically, medically and mentally fit.
• Firefighting skills and able to perform roles of a fire engine operator,
• First Aid skills, Equipment management skills,
• Computer literacy, training skills, Fire prevention skills.
• Knowledge of emergency procedures.
• Knowledge of public safety theories and methods.
• Ability to deal with people effectively in difficult situations.
• Analytical and problem solving skills.
• Effective verbal and written communication and ability to write reports.
• Fulfilled the requirements of Chapter Six (6) of the Constitution
