Key Duties and Responsibilities

• Deliver German language lessons at A1, A2 and A3 levels using appropriate language curricula and recognised proficiency standards.
• Prepare lesson plans, schemes of work, training schedules, learning materials and assessments.
• Develop trainees’ competence in speaking, listening, reading and writing German.
• Teach German grammar, sentence structure, vocabulary, pronunciation and correct language usage.
• Develop practical communication skills through conversations, role plays, presentations, discussions and real-life situations.
• Prepare trainees progressively for German language proficiency examinations and certification.
• Conduct continuous assessments, quizzes, oral examinations, written tests and mock examinations.
• Track individual trainee progress and provide appropriate remedial support where required.
• Identify different learning needs and adapt teaching methods to suit individual and group abilities.
• Introduce trainees to German culture, workplace communication, etiquette and everyday social situations.
• Develop trainees’ ability to communicate in academic, professional and workplace environments.
• Provide additional coaching and language practice for trainees preparing for employment or further training opportunities in German-speaking countries.
• Maintain accurate records of attendance, assessments, trainee progress and performance.
• Mentor trainees on professionalism, confidence, communication and workplace readiness.
• Participate in curriculum review, staff meetings and professional development activities.
• Support internal and external assessments, quality assurance processes and institutional inspections.
• Develop and maintain appropriate teaching and learning resources, including digital language-learning materials.
• Perform any other duties related to training and trainee development as assigned.

Requirements

Minimum Qualifications and Requirements

Academic Qualifications:

• Diploma in German Language, German Studies, Linguistics, Applied Linguistics, Languages, Education (German) or a related field.
• A bachelor’s Degree in German, Linguistics, Education or a related discipline will be an added advantage.

Language Proficiency:

• Advanced/native-level proficiency in German with excellent command of spoken and written German.
• Demonstrable ability to teach German from A1 through A3 levels.
• Proficiency in English is required.
• Knowledge of Kiswahili will be an added advantage.

Trainer/Pedagogy Qualification:

• Recognised teaching qualification, TVET pedagogy/trainer methodology, education qualification or equivalent.
• Certification in teaching German as a foreign language will be an added advantage.

Professional Certifications – Added Advantage:

• Goethe-Zertifikat C1/C2 or equivalent recognised German language qualification.
• Certification or training in German as a Foreign Language (DaF/DaZ).
• Experience preparing candidates for Goethe-Institut or other recognised German language examinations.

Experience

• Minimum 1–2 years’ experience teaching German as a foreign language.
• Demonstrable experience teaching A1, A2 and B1/A3-equivalent progression.
• Experience preparing learners for German language proficiency examinations will be highly desirable.
• Experience in vocational, technical, adult or competency-based training will be an added advantage.
• Experience teaching learners preparing for employment, study or migration to German-speaking countries will be an advantage.

• Strong understanding of progressive language acquisition from beginner to intermediate levels.

• Ability to assess language proficiency and provide constructive feedback.

• Ability to use digital platforms and technology to enhance language learning.

Language and Computer Skills

• German – Excellent/Advanced proficiency required.
• English – Excellent proficiency required.
• Kiswahili – Added advantage.
• Good computer literacy, including use of Microsoft Office, online learning platforms and digital language-learning tools.
