Project background
The Green TVET is one of the five major pillars of the global program. It is being implemented in five countries namely: Angola, Burundi, Madagascar, Kenya, and Nigeria coordinated by Don Bosco Tech Africa, DBDON, and the Salesians brothers.
Despite creating awareness of the focused themes, a growing number of stakeholders are speaking out for a greening of the curriculum either in a form that includes an environment-based course or for every trade having a green component integrated.
A ‘greener curriculum’ aims to enable young people to develop a greater appreciation of the environment; foster a greater understanding of the science and politics of climate emergency; learn how to influence and support green initiatives in their community and how to be greener.
It is the hope of Don Bosco Tech Africa through the Green TVET project at the Don Bosco TVET centers in countries involved will ensure that their curricula and standards are in line with today’s green skills needs. Furthermore, they must reflect these changes in the pedagogical strategies used, which must be underpinned by attitudinal changes in learners, trainers, and communities.

In Kenya, these topical activities are implemented through the Green Clubs in 5 Don Bosco TVET centers (Boys Town, Kakuma, Embu, Makuyu, and Marsabit) and the mobile team that is composed of the Green specialist and the Logistics officer with a duty of going around the 5 Don Bosco TVET centers in training and creating awareness on the four focused environmental topics to students.
