    Health Promotion Activity (IECHP) Manager

    Objective of the Position:

    • Defining, coordinating and monitoring all the (IEC) & Health Promotion activities in the project and promoting MSF services according to MSF principles, protocols and standards in order to increase the knowledge of the target population about their health, the support of preventive activities and the collaboration to improve the services.

    Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

    • Strategy Development and Follow Up: Define, update and implement the Health Promotion/IEC strategy and related activities through annual project and budget plan (objectives, target population, campaigns, messages, activities, specific actions, etc.) in collaboration with the Health Promotion team and other key managers. Provide technical feedback on monthly narrative reports ensuring that established program targets and objectives are met.
    • Community Development and Health Promotion: Assessing knowledge of the target group on health risk and analyzing the context (local culture, traditions, habits, health perception) to adapt health activities and support the social mapping (villages, populations, actors), Identifying indicators to monitor HP activities results and achievement and using concrete tools to measure and follow up those activities. Adopt a community development approach aimed at building the capacity of communities, target groups, organizations and key stakeholders in addressing SGBV, medical emergencies and Adolescent and Youth barriers to access health.
    • Engage community health volunteers as key focal persons and first responders. Support the development of a peer education/ focal person program in the schools/communities and within religious organizations especially in relation to the youth friendly program. Work with communities to spread anti-stigma messages. Consider how programming can be culturally sensitive and promote positive gender and cultural norms, while also challenging potentially harmful attitudes and practices. Improve uptake of the different services provided by MSF through community dialogue and networking.
    • Information, Education and Communication: In collaboration with the regional communication office to ensure all IEC materials and messaging are appropriate and effective, and develop new materials as needed: Radio programs messages, written media, newspaper etc. Assessing, developing and adapting IEC/HP materials according to the needs of the project. Leading focus-group discussions with target groups to ensure adequacy, relevance, broadcasting and full awareness of the messages, ensuring they are worded in a pedagogic manner.
    • Further develop IEC tools around the area of social media (communication strategy). In collaboration with the manager of the Youth Friendly Centre, develop edutainment materials for the adolescents and youth. Coordinate peer educators and develop trainer for trainers’ program.
    • Collaboration and Networking: Ensure regular collaboration with the MSF medical team such as Medical Team Leader, Midwife Activity Manager, Social Worker and Project Coordinator to ensure an efficient, effective and integrated service between community and clinic.
    • Liaising with other relevant actors (national and International NGO’s, authorities) also involved in prevention activities, analyzing interventions and building cooperative relationships and advocacy, to enhance the influence of the campaigns and messages and to improve awareness among the targeted population. Build and maintain partnerships and collaboration with other SGBV partners and relevant stakeholders.
    • Knowing protocols and general SOPs for (SGBV), emergency program and youth friendly services. Identify beneficiaries and refer them to the medical team for treatment according to protocols.
    • Supervising the IEC/HP team and their activities, in and outside health facilities, reporting difficulties and progress as well as adapting format and content when necessary. Ensuring that HP/IEC participates in counselling services when needed
    • Management: In close collaboration with the HR department, Planning and supervising the team and participating in all the HR and admin associated processes (recruitment, training, evaluation, development and internal communication) of the IEC / HP staff of the project. Provide ongoing technical support and mentorship for the team to develop professional and technical competency. Define specific objectives and conduct yearly evaluations for the team members. Define gaps in the team knowledge and organize, in collaboration with the Admin and Learning and Development Manager, a proper training schedule.
    • Participating in the monthly reports according to guidelines (SitReps, Statistical reports, etc, Compile, monthly, quarterly reports

    Qualifications & Requirements:

    • Dynamic individual with a demonstrated ability to achieve results in a demanding and fast paced environment.
    • Education: Master’s degree in a relevant field (Community Development, Social Work, Public Health, Health Promotion, International Human Rights, Gender Studies) or Bachelor’s degree with commensurate work experience
    • Experience: At least 2 years practical experience in development programming at international or national level
    • Experience leading teams and mentoring staff; Expertise in gender, women’s rights and human rights is a plus; Experience with vulnerable populations, and SGBV survivors
    • Public speaking and strategic planning experience required; Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities, deadlines, tasks efficiently; Excellent time management skills and resourcefulness with strong attention to detail
    • Languages: - Fluency in English and Kiswahili is a must, other local languages are an added value
    • Knowledge: - Essential Computer Literacy (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
    • Competences: - People Management and Development, Commitment to MSF Principles; Behavioural Flexibility; Results and Quality Orientation; Teamwork and Cooperation
    • Applicants MUST be Kenyan nationals and have the necessary statutory documents (ID, NSSF, NHIF, and a PIN certificate).
