Design and test local area data and voice communication networks to meet the needs of the business and prepare specifications for implementation of new or enhanced networks.
Design, configure, and implement LAN/WAN hardware, software and ancillary services for network operating efficiency.
Perform or provide technical guidance in the installation and configuration of network equipment and in resolving user or systems problems.
Assist in and may perform router installations, router software upgrade and connections of site to Ethernet, Token Ring, Serial and Frame Relay Connections. v. Maintain network security, resolve network operating problems and setup firewalls. vi. Provide technical support to LAN/WAN administration, monitor WAN networks and regularly offer formal network training to staff and end-users on a need basis.
Persons Specifications
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or Electrical engineering, or the relevant functional field.
Post-graduate qualification in Information Technology if the first degree is not in any of the above.
Minimum four (4) years’ relevant experience.
Certified A plus (A+), N+ and Microsoft Platform is an added advantage.
ITIL and other Service Management Certification
Membership to a relevant professional body.
Demonstrated competence in work performance.
Key Skills and Competencies
Good knowledge of structured cabling systems and supporting international standards.
Experience in supporting one or more network operating systems: installing, administering and configuring two or more multi-protocol routers in multiple locations, trouble shooting, isolating and interpreting performance problems in a multiple environment.
Excellent communication skills with ability to lead both technical and business level communications.
Practical experience in security standards, tools and methodologies.Experience in deploying firewalls.
Practical experience in network monitoring and management tools.
Ability to deliver KPC’s articulated vision for change, and motivate staff to join change efforts.
Ability to maintain professional status and keep abreast with evolving trends through continuing professional education, especially in the area of petroleum products.
Ability to empower staff through coaching and counselling by emphasizing accountability and results oriented management.
