    Intern - Environment Affairs, I

    Responsibilities
    Under the direct supervision of Programme Officer in the Source-to-Sea Pollution Unit, the intern will work on the implementation of activities related to the global partnerships for which the unit provides secretariat services namely the Global Partnership on Nutrient Management, the Global Wastewater Initiative and the Global Partnership on Plastic Pollution and Marine Litter:

    • Undertake targeted desktop research to compile science-based facts and figures, case studies, relevant stories and other information.
    • Draft materials for the Partnerships.
    • Support the expansion of the Partnerships in underrepresented regions.
    • Support management of the members contact database and the corresponding mailing lists of the Partnerships.
    • Support preparations of the Partnership’s meetings and any other upcoming meetings, including tracking documentation and providing logistical support.
    • Support capacity development and data and knowledge management activities for the Partnerships.
    • Support the development of the Partnership’s Action Tracks and other activities.
    • Support other tasks or activities as required and in accordance with the intern's interests.

Places team agenda before personal agenda. Supports and acts in accordance with final group decision, even when such decisions may not entirely reflect own position. Shares credit for team accomplishments and accepts joint responsibility for team shortcomings.

    Education

    Applicants must at the time of application meet one of the following requirements:

    • Be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher) in natural sciences, environmental studies, international relations, project management and evaluation, development studies, communications, environmental economics or related disciplines is required.
    • Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum bachelor's level or equivalent);
    • Have graduated with a university degree.
    • Have demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter.
    • Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views.


    Work Experience

    • No working experience is required to apply for the United Nations Internship Programme. Your training, education, advance course work or skills should benefit the United Nations during your internship.
    • Good organizational skills and the ability to work well as part of a team is required.
    • Some experience relevant to plastic pollution and marine litter is desirable.

    Languages

    • English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this internship position, fluency in oral and written English is required. Knowledge of another official UN language is desirable.
