    Junior Electrical Engineer- Biomass

    About the Role:

    • BURN is currently seeking a mission-driven candidate to serve as an Electrical Engineer in our manufacturing facility in Nairobi, Kenya.  
    • The Electrical Engineering Fellow will be primarily involved with the development of BURN’s Kuniokoa Turbo products with stove tracking. 

    Duties and Responsibilities:

    • Design, prototype, debug and optimize sensor subsystems and custom PCBs. 
    • Work with manufacturing partners for timely prototype and series production 
    • Undertake electronics design analyses in support of product development activities.
    • Testing and assessing existing forced draft cookstoves’ circuitry. 
    • Designing a custom forced draft stove powered with a thermo-electric generator. 
    • Customizing existing stove tracker to work for Biomass cookstoves. 
    • Testing additional temperature and pressure sensors 
    • Ensuring forced draft cookstove electronics to comply with international safety standards. 
    • Work with the product development team on design for manufacturability and robustness 
    • Developing electrical products by studying customer requirements; researching and testing manufacturing and assembly methods and materials 
    • Assuring product quality by designing electrical testing methods; and testing finished products and system capabilities. 
    • Conducting electrical circuit hardware testing and troubleshooting 
    • Maintaining accurate documentation of concepts, designs, drawings, and processes 
    • Resolving PCB design issues with fabrication and manufacturing vendors 

    Skills and Experience:

    • Electrical engineering background and hands-on electrical engineering experience, product engineering experience, or development experience 
    • Experience with electronics; familiarity with electronic systems, electronics troubleshooting, and designing consumer hardware.
    • Experience with Printed Circuit Board Design (KiCAD, Proteus, Altium). 
    • Experience with microcontroller programming (AVR, ARM). 
    • Experience with IoT (TCP, MQTT). 
    • Experience with DC motors. 
    • Experience with low-power product design. 
    • Strong ability to interpret electronic schematics required; ability to design circuits highly desired. 
    • High-level organizational skills 
    • Works well in a team setting with line employees and technicians.
    • Experience with sensors, sensor / PID controllers, or similar is a plus 
    • Experience with electric cooking technology is a plus
