Medical Specialist (Obs & Gynae, KNH Othaya) at Kenyatta National Hospital

JOB GROUP KNH 6, KNH OTHAYA (1 POST)

Reporting to the Chief Medical Specialist/Head of Department, the Medical Specialist (OBS & GYNAE ) will be expected to take full responsibility for patients under his/her care.

Duties and Responsibilities

1. Implement clinical decisions for specialised quality patient care.
2. Implement hospital programmes within their respective specialities, including coordination of intervention activities, development and review of protocol, SOPs and work instructions.
3. Training, supervising and mentoring Medical Officers, Medical Intern and other students.
4. Work with other specialties for multi-disciplinary patient care
5. Undertake and support medical research and clinical audits, utilizing the data to benefit the patient while implementing the recommendations.
6. Undertake all required patient care activities; emergency medical procedures, ward rounds and communicating to patients.
7. Executing Medico-legal duties including filling of P3 forms, court attendancenand forensic duties
8. Champion continuous quality healthcare standards and patient safety guidelines
9. Accepts other responsibilities that the Senior Medical Specialist may request from time to time, such as representation on Committees, investigates patient management practices, and initiates new procedures and services
10. Coordinating and managing referral care within the framework of the hospital and national referral policies

Qualifications and Experience

1. Master’s degree in OBS & GYNAE from an institution recognized by the Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council.
2. Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBChB) degree from a recognized institution by the Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council.
3. Specialist recognition in OBS & GYNAE from the Medical Practitioners’ and Dentist Council
4. A minimum period of eight (8) years’ relevant work experience, three of which should have been at the level of Senior Medical Officer or comparable position.
5. Registration Certificate by the Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council.
6. Retention in the Medical Practitioners and Dentist Council register.
7. Evidence in knowledge and proficiency in computer applications.
8. Fulfilled the requirements of Chapter Six (6) of the Constitution of Kenya, 2010
