Legal Counsel at Thunes

Key Responsibilities

This role is responsible for negotiating and drafting international payments contracts with other financial institutions, mobile network operators, merchants and FinTechs and will include:

• NDA drafting and negotiation
• Drafting and negotiating contracts for international payments with business partners covering technical integration, financial settlement, information security, data processing, regulatory compliance and marketing
• Partnering with Sales, Product and Compliance teams to resolve open contractual points and to provide legal advice on new products and markets
• Providing strategic legal and commercial advice to international sales teams
• Drafting and negotiating ad hoc agreements to support commercial activities (e.g. referral, exclusivity)
• Drafting contract templates for new services and update existing ones to ensure compliance with new regulations
• Coordinating the execution of agreements and legalisation of documents with international colleagues and counterparties
• Supporting the General Counsel with a wide range of general legal, commercial and regulatory compliance matters

Education

• Strictly fluent in or have working knowledge of French
• Qualified lawyer in a sub-Saharan African country
• 4 years PQE or equivalent work experience

Experience

• Cross-border Remittance experience and general payments experience preferred
• Experience drafting IT/Technology/Banking contracts
• Experience with license reviews and payment service license applications
• Clear written and verbal communicator
• Able to work under pressure and manage own workload
• Passionate about technology and start-ups
• Advanced competency in Microsoft Word
• Knowledge and understanding of both common law and civil law systems
