    Livestock Health Technician

    Position Overview

    • Livestock Health Technician is responsible for general disease control, health of livestock as may be required from time to time and according to the company policies and procedures. Ensuring to maintain overall annual mortality below 3% with good practice. Assist to reduce overall budget of livestock treatments.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Proper diagnosis of illnesses and treatment of all sick/clinical cases as reported by herdsmen, supervisors or any other livestock personnel.
    • Ensuring that all scheduled vaccination and immunization schedules are done within the required time and maintaining a record of the same.
    • Reporting to the Head of Livestock & DM - livestock of any notifiable disease/s diagnosed in the course of doing treatments so that they can be reported to relevant authorities as required by law.
    • Ensuring that other disease control measures like cattle spraying, calf immunization protocols etc. are carried out to the highest and required standards and the correct procedures (like mixing rates, drugs administration) are adhered to in the course of the whole process at all times.
    • Perform post mortems to all livestock dying either in the course of treatment or as a result of any other cause apart from disease, keep records of the same and create course of action after determining the cause/s of death.
    • Responsible for ordering for correct types of drugs in line with the commonly occurring diseases and conditions and ensuring the correct usage of the same in line with pharmacological and veterinary requirements, whilst keeping accurate records for the same.
    • In charge of all spray races and reports from spray dip attendants.
    • Maintaining safety for self and others (especially cattle handlers or herdsmen) in the course of doing treatments.
    • Maintaining highest standards of cleanliness/aseptic conditions where required and ensuring that the drug kits and other tools and equipment’s (syringe guns, drenching/dosing guns etc) are kept clean and to the required standards.
    • Keeping in safe custody all tools and equipment allocated and uses the same in proper manner.
    • Recording all treatments and drugs used and updating all treatments on cattlemax.
    • Making sure maternity herds always regularly shifted and kept free of disease.
    • Monitoring all spray races and immunization programs as well as conducted regular tick counts and acaricide sampling
    • Ensures the safety and cleanliness of documentation under own jurisdiction e.g. drug records, treatment records, death records etc.
    • Adheres to the health and safety legal standards on the workplace as provided by the Act.
    • Ensures proper usage of the personal protective equipment at all times while undertaking duties.
    • Adheres to the company rules and regulations while maintaining a high sense of discipline.
    • Handing over all the works and assignments to the supervisor or any other person in charge while leaving for off or leave.
    • Carrying out any other duties that may be given at the discretion of the management

    Qualifications and Skills

    • Minimum certificate or Diploma in Animal Health and Production or any other relevant course
    • Experience: Minimum of 3 years with beef cattle.
