    Intern - Junior Software Engineer

    Role Overview

    Living Goods is seeking an Intern - Junior Software Engineer to join our team in Nairobi. As the junior software engineer, you will aid and support in software design and computer coding. You will attend and contribute to team meetings, learn the codebase, improve your coding skills, and monitor the technical performance of systems.

    Responsibilities

    • Join engineering team tasked with continuous development of LG platform producing clean and efficient code and documentation.
    • Identify, prioritize, and execute tasks in the software development life cycle.
    • Analyze features and programs to improve their functionality.
    • Work with QA Engineers to Perform validation and verification testing on LG software products
    • Contribute to Design, Development and Maintenance of features on the LG Platform, including new feature development, code reviews, bug fixing as well as scalability testing.
    • Report in daily Scrums on Milestones, progress towards tasks, barriers needing attention, etc. Log all development activities inside LG issue and project tracking system.
    • Automate tasks through appropriate tools and scripting.
    • Collaborate with the engineering team to improve the performance, efficiency and scalability of our tools.

    Qualifications

    • BSC in Computer Science or a related field
    • 1 year Programming experience in NodeJS, Java or Python
    • 1 year experience in front end technologies such as HTML5, CSS, jQuery etc.
    • Experience working with code frameworks e.g JAVA Spring
    • Knowledge of version control tools such as git
    • Experience working within containerized contexts such as Docker
    • Excellent understanding of CI/CD processes
    • Working knowledge with APIs and web services
    • Experience working with relational and non-relational databases (PostgreSQL, CouchDB an added advantage)
    • Knowledge of AWS tooling is a plus
    • Knowledge of data visualization tools
    • Ability to work independently as well as fit well within a team.
