Medical Laboratory Technologist/Clinical Instructor at University of Eastern Africa, Baraton

Key Duties and Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be expected to:

• Prepare and support laboratory practical sessions, demonstrations, and student assessments.
• Perform routine laboratory procedures and assist in laboratory-based teaching and research activities.
• Prepare and manage laboratory reagents, specimens, equipment, and other laboratory materials.
• Operate, maintain, and ensure proper use of laboratory equipment.
• Maintain laboratory records, inventories, and other relevant documentation.
• Ensure compliance with laboratory safety, biosafety, quality assurance, and waste-management requirements.
• Support students and academic staff in laboratory practicals, projects, and research activities.
• Coordinate the identification of clinical practicum sites, including liaison with laboratory heads and other site supervisors to facilitate effective student placement and training.
• Supervise and monitor MLS students during clinical practicum, providing academic and professional guidance while liaising with site laboratory heads to assess student progress and performance.
• Perform any other duties as may be assigned by the Head of Department or other authorized University officers.

Minimum Qualifications and Requirements

Applicants must:

• Hold a Bachelor’s degree in Medical Laboratory Science or Medical Laboratory Technology or an equivalent qualification from a recognized university.
• Have at least two (2) years of relevant working experience.
• Be registered with the Kenya Medical Laboratory Technicians and Technologists Board (KMLTTB).
• Possess a valid KMLTTB practicing license.
• Demonstrate competence in relevant medical laboratory procedures, laboratory safety, and quality assurance.
• Have excellent communication, interpersonal, and teamwork skills.
• Be proficient in technology and digital tools.
