    Medical Officer - Advanced HIV Disease - 3 Posts

    The project

    The University of Nairobi is implementing a United States Agency for International Development (USAID) project (USAID Fahari ya Jamii) to support implementation of the Kenya Health Partnerships for Quality Services (HIV, FP/RMNCAH, Nutrition and WASH) in Nairobi and Kajiado Counties. To successfully implement, the project seeks to competitively fill three (3) positions.

    The Position

    This is a fulltime position 2 based in Nairobi the other in Kajiado.

    Job Summary

    The overall function of this position is to ensure the effective implementation of quality HIV care and treatment services in supported counties. Responsible for working closely with the facility staff at assigned facility to strengthen HIV/TB service delivery and ensure that the quality of HIV prevention, care and treatment, and TB supported at the facility is consistent with the national/County Health Services quality standards and guidelines. Responsible for supporting direct clinical client reviews, OJT, mentorship, coaching, and regular updates to staff in Inpatient department (where applicable), PMTCT, HIV care and treatment, and TB care for all populations.

    Duties and responsibilities

    •  Scaling up of Differentiated Service Delivery models (DSD) and multi-month dispensing (MMD): As HIV treatment is simplified, HIV programs are adopting more clientcentered approaches including providing > 80% of the clients served with medications for at least 3-6 months. This reduces the frequency of clinical visits and in turn fewer appointments for clinical staff.
    •  Improving advanced HIV care for children, adolescents, and adults: Nearly 95% (94%) of the HIV infected clients are virally suppressed. The medical officer will prioritize care to those who are not virally suppressed or have other chronic illnesses such as noncommunicable diseases (NCD), that make them unstable. The care shall extend to HIV patients in IPD where applicable.
    •  Integration of NCDs into HIV Care: The medical officer will provide support for screening and management of PLHIV who are diagnosed with NCDs.
    •  Ensure achievement of the facility’s annual service delivery targets and develop remedial plans where the targets fall short.
    •  Ensure synergy with the sub-county technical (Hub) teams in site-level mentorship and supervision.
    •  Review monthly/quarterly reports and quality of care indicators routinely and provide guidance and recommendations related to tracked indicators and outcomes.
    •  Support site level Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) and strengthen capacity of facility MDT to increasingly use their data to support improvements for patient case management.
    •  Support facility WIT team to identify gaps subsequently prioritizing, analyzing, and implementing QI projects.
    •  Maintain thorough documentation of activities and tracks deliverables.
    •  Coordinate dashboard reviews of clinical outcomes and utilize project data to prioritize interventions.
    •  Maintain current knowledge of medical practice standards and developments.
    •  Any additional duties as assigned

    Job specifications

    •  A degree in Medicine and Surgery with at least four (4) years’ experience.
    •  Advanced HIV/TB Care and Treatment trainings will be a distinct advantage. Preferably the Kenya 2022, revised guideline.
    •  Hands on clinical experience in HIV service delivery and technical coordination.
    •  Proven experience and familiarity with MOH/GOK health systems.

    Terms of appointment

    • This a position whose tenure is one (1) year contract renewable based on performance and by mutual consent. The salary is negotiable depending on the level of education and work experience.
