    Deputy Theatre In-Charge

    Duties and responsibilities:

    • Assisting in all major surgeries and as required by surgeons.
    • Timely escalation of theatre incidents and errors.
    • Ensure that all elective surgical cases are booked as per scheduling SOP.
    • Ensure equipment and instruments are managed as per manufacturers specifications and ensure that failures and breakages are reported immediately.
    • Preparation of theatre reports as requested by theatre nurse manager.
    • Overseeing the daily operations of theatre department in the absence of the theatre manager.
    • Ensure timely staff scheduling and Rota Management in consultation with theatre manager.
    • Patient safety.
    • Ensure that only patients who are fully prepared are received and operated on.
    • Ensure that all pre and post-operative checklists are duly filled as per the theatre operating standards.
    • Comply with Metropolitan Hospital Quality and risk policies.
    • Comply with IPC protocols in managing theatre and CSSD units.
    • Plan with biosafety teams to conduct sterility tests for theatre and CSSD.
    • Ensure compliance with all theatre related turn around times. This may include but not limited to: Decision to cutting time, receiving and discharge from theatre.
    • Ensure compliance with healthcare standards code of conduct.
    • Comply with the data protection act.

    Key deliverables

    • Ensure implementation and compliance with theatre surgical scheduling.
    • Manage theatre equipment and instrument management.
    • Ensure and compliance with IPC protocol.
    • Ensure implementation and compliance with IPSG at theatre level.

    Job Requirements

    • Higher diploma in perioperative nursing
    • Diploma in KRN/KRCHN
    • Registered with the nursing council of Kenya
    • Active BLS/ACLS certification
    • 2 to 5 years in leadership position
