Network Engineer - Cloud and Infrastructure Contractor at Safaricom Kenya

We are pleased to announce the following Contractual Position in the Digital IT Department within the Technology Division.   In keeping with our current business needs, we are looking for a person who meets the criteria indicated below.

Brief Description.

Reporting to the Manager – Infrastructure and Cloud Solutions, the position holder will provide technical expertise and support to Safaricom in the field of local and wide area network administration and design for all Digital IT Cloud and Infrastructure new projects and services, ensuring stability across.

Key Responsibilities

• Liaise with other departments to deliver cross team projects and harmonized IT operations in SFC. Provide input, expertise in projects that require IT Network infrastructure for expanding business areas to support retail outlets. Switch rooms and  new products and services
• Responsible for building, maintaining and supporting high-performance, fault-tolerant, scalable and distributed cloud and infrastructure solutions.
• Responsible for interfacing with application support teams to ensure applications fit within the infrastructure with scalability, reliability and security designed and implemented from the onset and aldo in definign road maps for the solutions.
• Support automation of infrastructure at massive scale to support scaling of digital services and as well as adoption of new technologies within Infrastructure and cloud support team.
• Provide Support in Administering, configuring and troubleshooting private or cloud-based servers running on Microsoft Windows and Unix/Linux in physical, virtualized or containerized environment. Response, problem resolution and escalation of server issues.
• Liaise with users, hardware and software vendors and internal systems owners to fine tune systems hardware and software for all systems.
• Technical support for assigned company initiatives and projects. Participation in feasibility studies and testing for new IT infrastructure components.
• Provide systems documentation, reporting and as well as defining procedures.

Qualifications

• Graduate/ Degree Bsc. In Computer Science, Engineering or IT
• 1-2 years in networks: managing a network of 200+ users,Server/Storage and cloud Infrastructure.
• Certified Cisco Engineer
• Experience in Cloud and Infrastructure environments.
• WAN/LAN Interconnect experience
• Managing, Configuring and Troubleshooting CISCO Network infrastructure.
• Experience in Managing, Configuring and Troubleshooting Checkpoint Firewalls, Cisco Firewalls and Web Authentication Firewalls.
• Knowledge of Cisco IOS and proficiency in a wide range of networking LAN/WAN products and technologies
• Monitor network performance (availability, utilization, throughput, goodput, and latency) and test for weaknesses
• Knowledge of basic network architecture concepts (zones/DMZ, VLANs, segmentation, subnetting. LAN/WAN).
• Good working knowledge of basic firewall configuration concepts (ACL, NAT/PAT, routing statements, ports, protocols, VPNs
• Basic Understanding of DevOps and Microservices technologies.
• Extensive knowledge of enterprise Linux, Unix/AIX and windows Operating Systems.
• Good understanding of Cloud Services and Infrastructure Virtualization technologies and integration models.
• Strong oral, written and interpersonal communication skills
