Network Engineer - IP Network Operations (2 Positions) at Kenya Education Network (KENET)

Main Purpose of the Job

This position reports to the Technical Lead, Network Operations Center and will provide technical support to the network through development, installation and operation of network devices and technologies, maintenance and upgrading, capacity planning and performance testing, resolution of incidents and problems and manages client connectivity projects and requests to completion. Suitable candidates will join a team responsible for network development of the backbone and last mile infrastructure of KENET as well as providing campus network development advisory services.

Requirements for the Job

• The ideal candidates shall have an electrical engineering degree from a recognized university and be registered or registrable as a professional engineer with Engineers Board of Kenya (EBK). With at least 5 years relevant hands-on practical experience since graduation in power systems and electrical contracting, solar power systems design & installation, design and installation of data center power environments and implementation of large enterprise IP networks and be at least EBK graduate member. The candidate should have some programming in Python or C, power system monitoring and automation experience.
• In addition, applicants interested in this position should also have at least 5 years relevant hands-on experience since graduation as a network engineer in the use and support of network monitoring and analysis tools and in design, installation, operation and maintenance of; network architectures, routing, switching and associated technologies and appliances (including firewalls, intrusion prevention systems etc) and network protocols (TCP/IP, UDP, multicast).
• The candidate should have current certifications in; Cisco (CCNP/CCNA), Linux, Wireless, networking; and in information security related fields (CEH, CHFI, CISA).
• Registration as a professional engineer by the Engineering Board of Kenya as well as project management certification shall be added advantages.
• All candidates must have demonstrated excellent oral and written communication skills, high ethical and moral standards and be capable of working in teams with limited supervision.
