Principal Group Engineering Manager at Microsoft

Responsibilities

In this role, you will: 

• Lead the development efforts in Microsoft Africa Development Center in Nairobi and enable us to successfully grow diverse and inclusive engineering teams.  
• Set long term strategy for your organization, aligning with broader organizational goals and investment, and build the tactical execution plan that helps the team deliver on the vision. 
• Provide strong technical leadership that helps the team develop reliable and scalable solutions for Microsoft.  
• Build a world class engineering team by being a role model, providing coaching to leaders, and caring for individual and team needs. 
• Partner with senior stakeholders and engineering leaders in Identity and other divisions in to deliver on critical initiatives. 
• Ensure operational excellence of your software to ensure it is secure, reliable, scalable and performant. 
• Build healthy, collaborative relationships across the division and Microsoft to adopt best practices and contribute successes from your team. 

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Computer Science, engineering, or related discipline 
• 10+ years of professional experience in product management, program management, or software engineering, including significant experience as a leader and manager of managers 
• Proven experience in delivering and managing applications that meet the fundamental bars of security, availability, user experience, and efficiency  
• Ability to motivate and develop a diverse and inclusive, cohesive, and high performing team 
• Ability to manage stakeholder and partner relationships to influence, drive collaboration, innovation, and adoption across organizations 
• Strong interpersonal and group dynamic skills coupled with excellent written and verbal communication skills

Highly Valued Skills 

• You also ideally have experience in international software development, ideally with exposure to African talent market and the technical landscape. 
• Experience influencing executive leadership and executive stakeholders.  
• Prior experience working in data analytics, big data, or client applications/SDKs
