    Production of Videography and Photography Services on Artisanal and Small Scale Gold Mining in Osiri Matanda, Migori County

    PURPOSE OF ASSIGNMENT

    • The purpose of this assignment is to produce audiovisual stories (short videos and photos) featuring artisanal and small-scale gold miners. The stories will showcase/highlight sector challenges/issues, opportunities for relevant stakeholders to take appropriate action. The videos will offer a deeper understanding of the issues in the artisanal and small-scale gold mining sector in Kenya, giving special focus on the state of formalization of the sector.

    This will be achieved through the following assignment objectives:

    • Produce 2 high-quality video clips (3 - 5 minutes) in line with the documentation plan to be provided to successful consultant;
    • Produce at least 10 powerful/catchy statements/quotes on thematic issues (at least one caption/powerful statement per interviewee) captured during the interviews.

    Produce at least 50 high-resolution images (individual and group photos) that:

    • Show the life and living circumstances of the artisanal and small scale miners; and,
    • Show artisanal and small-scale gold mining activities as follows:
    • Close-up portrait
    • Medium or full-length shots of the beneficiary on their field or in front of their house
    • Current challenges and efforts to mitigate and/or adapt to their effects
    • If possible, some playful, fun photos. People hugging, giving high fives, showing them at work

    The audiovisual material will be used in different ways:

    • On a website
    • On the social media channels of Solidaridad, and Syngenta.
    • In promotional emails
    • Possible print magazines (photos)

    DELIVERABLES

    • Site visit to mine site areas including Osiri Matanda, Migori county, Kenya Shooting footage of artisanal and small-scale gold miners
    • Interviewing and documenting female and male small-scale and artisanal miners according to the agreed interview scripts provided by the project team of Solidaridad and The Impact Facility
    • 2 high-quality videos (one 7 minute and one 3.5 minutes) highlighting individual interviews edited for broadcast and nonbroadcast; Videos will incorporate additional footage provided by Solidaridad (contractor) & raw footage according to the Solidaridad videography guidelines
    • A minimum of 50 high-resolution photographs, edited (post-processed), tagged, and captioned according to the Solidaridad photography guidelines.
    • Miners powerful/catchy statements/quotes on thematic issues (at least one caption/powerful statement per interviewee)
    • Providing RAW FOOTAGE to Solidaridad staff concerned Incorporating additional footage in the editing process as may be provided from time to time

    All photography should adhere to the Solidaridad photography guidelines and brand manual that will be provided to the photographer.

    METHODOLOGY

    The task will involve physical field visits to shoot the video footage and the interviews to the miner representatives.

    RESPONSIBILITIES OF CONSULTANTS/SCOPE OF WORK

    • Pre-Production: Development of the work plan and review of the shooting script provided by the client for this documentation. Participate in an inception meeting, develop the roadmap

    Production:

    Shooting and editing to deliver a high level testimonial one video piece 2.5minutes-3.5minutes in length, covering on, mining formalization, ASM leasing and technologies in operationalization as per the script.

    • Shooting and editing a 7 minutes video covering thematic areas on , ASM formalization and use of Mercury.
    • ASM producers photos
    • Post production: Submit edited draft pieces and edit recommended changes. Editing – Incorporate of video footage provided by Solidaridad

    REQUIREMENT AND SELECTION CRITERIA OF SERVICE PROVIDER

    Individual/s with the following requirements are encouraged to express their interests.

    Selection criteria

    • Should be based in Kenya.
    • Should have strong experience working with grassroots/artisanal mining communities.
    • Relevant academic qualifications in media, videography or relevant studies.

    Excellent communication and written skills in English and Swahili.

    • Outstanding; top-notch videography skills matched with photography expertise;
    • Outstanding video, audio, and photo editing skills;
    • A proven track record (samples of previous similar assignments need to be presented) specifically on documenting development project stories;
    • Experience with documenting international development work.

    The technical proposal should include the following:

    • Organization Profile (max 1 page) explaining why they are the most suitable for the
    • work;
    • Relevant Experience (max 1 page);
    • Detailed methodology framework with expected deliverables, timelines, man-days, and financial resources required (3-5 pages);
    • Recent CV’s for the team;
    • Company Registration and PIN certificates;
    • 3 testimonials from 3 organizations for which the service provider executed a similar assignment.

    The financial proposal should include the following:

    • Fixed professional fee for the assignment including preparation, fieldwork (photography & amp; videography), data analysis, writing process, final editing, and reporting;
    • Government taxes;
    • Fixers;
    • Permits (if applicable);
    • Translators;
    • Other related costs.

    The service provider is responsible for his/her own equipment (e.g. cameras, laptops), including the proper insurance of such items and software.

    COPYRIGHT CREDITS

    • In consideration of the fees paid, the videographer expressly assigns to Solidaridad any copyright arising from the works the videographer produces while executing this contract. Solidaridad herewith has non-exclusive world rights to selected images in all media (so including non-Solidaridad media) in perpetuity. Solidaridad will not use the images for other purposes than promoting Solidaridad (in the widest sense of the word).
    • In printed materials with a colophon, Solidaridad will credit the photographers. In external media, photographers can be credited with a combination of the name of Solidaridad with the name of the photographer, so: © Solidaridad/John Doe.
    • In digital media, posters, and banners photographers are usually not credited. All images (whether used for online or print purposes) must include the videographer’s name in the metadata. The videographer may not use, reproduce or otherwise disseminate or authorize others to use, reproduce or disseminate such works without prior consent from Solidaridad.
