Dimensions of the Role
The Project Coordinator is responsible for the conceptualization, development and execution of the project activities in line with the approved grant targeting Coastal livelihoods and environmental management in Lungalunga and Msambweni Sub counties. The role will ensure that all the project activities outcome are aligned to realizing Plan International Country Strategy. The responsibilities also include the implementation of the project design, monitoring and reporting on the progress of the project activities. The incumbent will be accountable for monitoring and management of the project budget. Additionally, the role will require to strengthen safeguarding of children in project areas and will require liaison with other project teams to ensure synergy and integration of project interventions. The job holder will manage a multi-million-dollar Project and must be abreast with donor regulations, environment and reporting.
The Project Coordinator will report to the Program Manager and will ensure that project outcomes are realized through providing effective, timely and coordinated project management. S/he will provide direct technical input in the implementation in accordance to donor/Organisations guidelines and standards.
The Project Coordinator will supervise Project Assistant.
Accountabilities
Safeguarding Children & Young People Policy
Ensures that Plan International’s global policies for Safeguarding of Children & Young People and Gender Equality and Inclusion (GEI) are fully embedded in accordance with the principles and requirements of the policy including relevant Implementation Standards and Guidelines as applicable to their area of responsibility. This includes, but is not limited to, ensuring staff and associates are aware of and understand their responsibilities under these policies and Plan International’s Code of Conduct (CoC), their relevance to their area of work, and that concerns are reported and managed in accordance with the appropriate procedures.
Technical expertise, skills and knowledge
Essential
- A Bachelor’s degree in Biodiversity conservation, Environmental conservation, Marine conservation, Natural Resource Management, Climate change or any other relevant degrees
- A demonstrated experience and understanding of developing, managing and implementing conservation projects in field levels
- Must have proven knowledge of or an interest in conservation of terrestrial and marine ecosystems
- Government stakeholder engagement
- Knowledge of women economic empowerment and gender integration best practices
- Knowledge and Experience on sustainable Livelihoods
- At least 3 years’ experience in project management/coordination.
- Knowledge of mapping systems e. g Geographical Information Systems
- Strong Knowledge and experience of community development.
- understanding of integrated development issues and rights based programming.
- Conversant with Child Rights issues and Child Participatory methodologies
- Knowledge and experience of working with Children, youth and women groups
- Hold personal values, ethics and attitudes which are in alignment with the principles of Plan's Safeguarding of Children and young persons policy.
- Willingness to sign and adhere to Plan Safeguarding children and young people policy
- Effective team managment experience
- Ability to use local languages for Coast Region will be an added advantage
- Ability to ride and use Motor Bike for field Operations
