    R&D Validation and Workshop Lead

    Overview

    Designed, engineered, and built-in Kenya, Mobius Motors sells highly durable, highly affordable vehicles for Africa’s mass market. Versatile, rugged, and durable, it is designed for African cities whilst still capable off-road.

    We are seeking to hire an R&D, Validation and Workshop Lead interested in a truly unique entrepreneurial opportunity to create an impact on a global scale as part of our Technical Team.

    Responsibilities

    The Technical team ensures that Mobius Motors has selected and developed the optimum technological solution to maximize the value and benefit of our product offering to our customers. This encompasses the following areas:

    1. Innovation: Strategic selection and application of existing and new technology in a new manner to address challenging product development needs
    2. Design & Development: Utilisation of lean and agile design & development best practices to efficiently introduce new products & solutions quickly and robustly
    3. Capability: Development of the right technological know-how both internally & externally (through partners) to allow pushing the boundary of capable product development goals
    4. Every member of the Technical team takes responsibility for supporting the business needs above, which may require expanding responsibilities as needed, additional learning, and tackling new professional challenges beyond what is reflected in this Job Description.

    Responsibilities

    1. Verification, Validation andTesting
      1. Validation Plan Management Create and manage a design validation plan with technical leadership aligned to overall program DVP plans.
      2. Validation Issues Management Ensure the accurate discovery and recording of all product issues. Champion the resolution of the issues in a timely manner.
      3. Validation Activity Management: Ensure the execution of the test and validation activity needed to meet the DVP program goals.
      4. Validation Reporting: Ensure the accurate, timely reporting of all DVP activity
    2. R & D Workshop Management
      1. Workshop operations: Take overall responsibility for the management and supervision of workshop operations.
      2. Workshop Daily Activity: Delegate daily duties and supervise all work being carried out by the workshop staff.
      3. Workshop Staff Management: Chair weekly meetings with workshop staff and if necessary, some members of the engineering team, to discuss progress and setbacks within the workshop.
      4. Inventory Management: Control workshop tools and accessories inventory as well as keep up to date with new technology tools that could be purchased by the company.
      5. Test Vehicle Management: Ensure that all Mobius vehicles are always mechanically sound for test days and investor visits.
      6. Performance Management: Conduct performance reviews of all workshop staff and ensure that they meet the expectations outlined in their job descriptions.
    3. Project Management
      1. Project Planning: Plan project work to meet project timelines. Ensure plans that are accurate and adhered to.
      2. Project Risk Management: Proactively manage program risk by assessing, planning, and implementing appropriate risk actions.
      3. Project Communication: Maintain up-to-date plans and communicate with team on changes.
      4. Project Validation Documentation: Ensure the safe and accurate storage and management of all documentation related to validation, sub-system sign-offs, test reports, fitment reports, etc along with company policy.
    4. Prototype Builds Management
      1. Prototype Vehicle Builds: Manage the development of prototype vehicle builds as required to the planned program timelines.
      2. Vehicle Management: Manage all the aspects of the prototype vehicle test fleet with regards to vehicle uptime, use approval, issue resolution and repairs.
      3. Vehicle Build Configuration: Support vehicle build process with BOM configuration and management of each vehicle.
    5. Test Facilities and Equipment Management
      1. Test Equipment Definition: Support the specification and coordination of the procurement, building, installation, and commissioning of any required test equipment and set-ups for verification test work.
      2. Test Equipment Management: Ensure all test equipment and tools are accounted for, used, audited, and managed in accordance with the requirements of their use.
      3. Equipment Use Training: Ensure all test equipment and tools are used by competent and trained team members.
    6. Continuous Improvement & Learning 
      1. Learning Engagement: Proactively and intentionally improve engineering and team skills through books, training courses, and other means.
      2. Continuous Improvement: Support continuous improvement at work by proactively looking for improvements to workflow, processes, and products.
      3. Lead and deliver to completion where applicable these ideas.
