    Regional Lead Capacity Building

    THE OPPORTUNITY

    Reporting to the Head of Access to Finance, the Regional Lead, will be responsible for the conceptualization, design, structuring and operationalization of the capacity building framework and strategy for the access to finance component of Mastercard Foundation. Capacity building is a critical component within the larger access to finance department aimed at creating sustainable and high impacting businesses.

    The successful candidate will be based in any of our listed offices in Africa: Rwanda, Ethiopia, Uganda, Kenya, Senegal, Ghana and Nigeria

    WAYS YOU CAN CONTRIBUTE

    1. Assess the existing capacity building approach and assets, and their path to the expected impact of the access to finance initiatives and investments. Designing, with partners, effective capacity building delivery programs and mechanisms that can be scaled and have impact.
    2. Support in the development and implementation of the Access to Finance and Shared Services strategies.
    3. In coordination with critical internal and external stakeholders, develop a clearer high-level path to impact (theory of change) for capacity building services.
    4. Formulate a framework to guide integration of the theory of change in all capacity building initiatives of the access to finance investments.
    5. Integrate the capacity building strategic intent and framework in the selection, approval, and implementation of all capacity building initiatives.
    6. Build the capacity of the internal teams to integrate the capacity building framework and guidelines in their capacity building initiatives to ensure that the services are responding to real needs (demand driven), and that their impact is demonstrated.
    7. Develop a resource library (including an e-library) of successful initiatives, lessons, and impacts, and augmenting these with approaches proposed by various Implementing Partners.
    8. Keep and regularly update a roster of effective capacity building implementing partners.
    9. Support senior leadership to cultivate and strengthen institutional relationships with partner organizations and other stakeholders.
    10. Lead and supervise small teams of colleagues and/or external experts by providing coaching and support necessary for success and growth.

    Who You Are

    1. Bachelor’s degree in international development, international relations, or related field. Master’s degree preferred.
    2. Professional qualifications (e.g., Accountancy, Coaching, Project Management) an added advantage.
    3. At least 10 to 12 years of experience in a relevant field.
    4. Strong understanding of MSME segments, in Africa, and effective diagnostic mechanisms for identifying business development gaps.
    5. Proven skills in designing, implementation, monitoring and reporting of capacity building initiatives.
    6. Strong ability to communicate progress and learnings from projects to colleagues and the wider development community.
    7. Experience living and working in Africa.
    8. Effectively applies specialized knowledge skills in designing, implementation, monitoring and reporting of capacity building initiatives.
    9. Command of quantitative and qualitative business analytics.
    10. Strong budgeting skills with the ability to manage a large portfolio of assets.
    11. Excellent project management skills, including multi-stakeholder projects.
    12. Proficiency in English, written and oral is required. Ability to speak a local language is highly preferred. French is an asset.
    13. Flexible, adaptable, and able to execute a range of job duties and changing priorities.
    14. Possess excellent verbal, written, and presentation skills with the ability to articulate information to a variety of constituents across cultures.
    15. Possess professional maturity, sensitivity with different cultures, and impeccable integrity that exemplify the Foundation’s values.
    16. Demonstrate a commitment to Mastercard Foundation’s values and vision.
