    Research Associate III

    Key Responsibilities

    • Act as a point person for animal health for the field team and Eco-PPR Scientists as per IACUC protocols
    • Act as a link to Community Disease Reporters for passive surveillance and coordinate regular visits to households to monitor herd dynamics
    • Supervise animal sampling activities in the field for purposes of cross-sectional/longitudinal and pre/post vaccination surveys for disease surveillance and sero-monitoring, respectively
    • Work with local staff to identify PPR outbreak spots, and conduct outbreak investigations and collect appropriate samples and data
    • Assess training needs and participate in training of animal health technicians/students on attachment
    • Coordinate animal health activities by scheduling and directing on work to be done for each day
    • Contribute to the planning, coordination and implementation of research activities as per project plan
    • Contribute to project reports and other technical reports
    • Perform any other related duties as may be required

    Requirements

    • Bachelor’s degree or Diploma in Veterinary Medicine (Kenya Veterinary Board registered veterinary surgeon)
    • Two years relevant experience with degree or five years relevant experience with diploma
    • Experience in animal handling, clinical monitoring, sampling and sample processing
    • Knowledge and experience working with small ruminants will be an added advantage
    • Experience in data analysis and report writing preferred
    • Experience in livestock disease surveillance in the field
    • Good understanding of methods, techniques and procedures

    Post location: The position will be based in Nairobi, Kenya

    Terms of Appointment

    This position is at job level HG 12 and it is only open to Kenyan nationals. The position on a 1-year fixed term contract. ILRI offers a competitive salary and benefits package which includes; pension, medical and other insurances
