Senior BESS Requirements Engineer at Andishi

Role Overview

• We are seeking an experienced Senior Requirements Engineer to support utility-scale Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) projects, with a focus on Energy Management Systems (EMS), control systems, and Power Conversion Systems (PCS).
• The engineer will develop, review, and maintain technical requirements across BESS projects and work with multidisciplinary engineering teams to ensure requirements are clear, traceable, testable, and aligned with applicable industry standards.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain technical requirements for BESS, EMS, SCADA, control systems, and PCS.
• Review project-specific requirements and identify technical gaps, conflicts, and compliance risks.
• Define functional, system, interface, performance, and cybersecurity requirements.
• Develop reusable requirements templates and supporting engineering documentation.
• Maintain requirements traceability, revision history, and change control throughout the project lifecycle.
• Review applicable industry standards and translate them into engineering requirements.
• Support technical reviews related to product compliance and certification.
• Review schematics, wiring diagrams, system architecture, interface documents, and operating documentation.
• Perform technical risk assessments and recommend mitigation actions.
• Coordinate requirements across controls, electrical, software, systems, and project engineering teams.
• Use modern engineering and AI-assisted tools to support requirements development and review.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineering, Controls Engineering, or a related technical field.
• 7+ years of relevant engineering experience.
• Strong experience with utility-scale BESS or related power/energy systems.
• Experience developing and managing engineering or system requirements.
• Knowledge of EMS, SCADA, control systems, and PCS/inverter systems.
• Understanding of utility-scale power systems, grid-connected equipment, protection, and electrical interfaces.
• Familiarity with industrial networks and utility communication protocols.
• Experience with technical compliance, certification, or regulatory requirements.
• Ability to work independently and collaborate with multidisciplinary engineering teams.

Standards Knowledge
Experience with several of the following is preferred:

• UL 9540 / UL 9540A
• UL 1973
• IEC 62619
• IEC 62933 series
• NFPA 855
• NERC-CIP
• ISO 27019
• Other relevant UL, IEC, grid, electrical, and cybersecurity standards

Preferred Experience

• Previous experience with utility-scale energy storage, renewable energy, power conversion equipment, grid-connected systems, EMS/SCADA platforms, or energy storage system integration is strongly preferred.
• Experience supporting compliance testing, certification activities, cybersecurity requirements, or requirements-management processes is a plus.
