    Senior Business Development Officer - Retail

     Job Purpose: 

    • The position is responsible for building and driving Laser Insurance Brokers’ retail insurance business. The role holder will operationalize the dedicated Retail Distribution Unit, recruit and lead a team of Direct Sales Agents (DSAs), and grow profitable retail revenue in line with the 
    • Company’s Strategic Plan. The position serves as the operational architect of the retail distribution strategy, translating strategic intent into a structured, productive and compliant sales channel. 

    Key Duties and Responsibilities: 

    • Develop and implement the Retail distribution strategy, annual sales plans, work plans, and initiatives to achieve business growth, market expansion, and revenue targets. 
    • Identify, develop, and convert new retail business opportunities by building sales pipelines, expanding the Company's market footprint, and establishing strategic relationships with clients, SACCOs, SMEs, Associations, community groups, and other partners. 
    • Coordinate and drive retail insurance distribution across the Group branch network by leveraging branches as effective sales channels, supporting branch teams, and ensuring consistent market coverage. 
    • Market and promote the Company's retail insurance products through targeted sales campaigns, customer acquisition initiatives, Direct Sales Agents (DSAs), branch channels, and other approved distribution platforms. 
    • Recruit, onboard, train, deploy, supervise, coach, and monitor the performance of Direct Sales Agents (DSAs), ensuring they are appropriately licensed, certified, motivated, and equipped to achieve sales objectives while maintaining ethical market conduct. 
    • Translate Unit revenue targets into individual and team sales targets, territories, activity plans, and sales pipelines, while monitoring performance, conversion rates, and productivity to achieve and exceed agreed business objectives. 
    • Drive the sale of the Company's retail product portfolio both directly and through the DSA team, ensuring sustainable growth, increased market penetration, and achievement of revenue targets. 
    • Build and maintain strong customer relationships to support business acquisition, client retention, cross-selling opportunities, high standards of customer service, fair treatment of customers, and prompt resolution of client queries. 
    • Conduct market research, competitor analysis, and business intelligence to identify emerging opportunities, market trends, and customer needs, and provide insights to support product development and business growth. 
    • Ensure all retail sales and distribution activities comply with Insurance Regulatory Authority (IRA) regulations, Company policies, procedures, and established sales and ethical conduct standards. 
    • Prepare and submit periodic reports on sales performance, production, market intelligence, pipeline status, and key performance indicators, together with recommendations to support management decision-making and continuous improvement.

    Knowledge, experience, and qualifications required Academic & Professional Qualifications/Memberships to professional bodies:

    • Bachelor’s degree in insurance, Actuarial Science, Business, Marketing, Commerce, Economics or a related field.
    • Professional qualification in insurance (Diploma in Insurance, or progress towards ACII / AIIK) is an added advantage.
    • Certificate of Proficiency (COP) in insurance, as required to transact insurance business in Kenya.

    Experience Required:

    • At least five (5) years’ experience in insurance sales and distribution, preferably within retail, agency, microinsurance/mass-market channels or related financial services.
    • Demonstrable experience leading or supervising a salesforce or agency team, with a track record of meeting revenue targets.
    • Sound understanding of the Kenyan retail insurance market and the applicable regulatory environment.
