Senior DevOps Engineer at AJUA (Formerly mSurvey)

Reports to: Head of Engineering

Business unit: Technology

You will be joining a team of talented and very passionate engineers to build the next big cloud infrastructure at Ajua.

For this particular role, you will be driving innovation in our product development while relentlessly improving the performance, scalability and high availability.

What you’ll need

• At least 3 years of professional experience in this specific role
• Fluency in scripting languages especially bash and python
• Working experience in managing AWS or related cloud infrastructure at scale eg Azure, GCP
• Experience in building multi-region highly available and auto-scaling infrastructure that optimizes cost and performance
• Skills in building and designing automated deployment pipelines in CI/CD environment like Jenkins, travis, circle CI 
• Strong  networking skills  such as routing, subnets and firewalls
• Strong skills in the following technologies:
• Linux/UNIX and related distros
• Containerization (Docker,Docker swarm, kubernetes)
• Source code management (SCM) tools such as GIT, GitLab, Mercurial, Bitbucket etc)
• Working knowledge of virtualization (vmware, virtualbox, kvm etc) is a plus
• Infrastructure automation (IAC - Infrastructure as Code) and configuration tools (Ansible, chef, terraform etc)
• Skills and experience in monitoring tools and techniques (graphite, grafana, nagios, splunk, syslog-ng, ELK etc)
• Experience in servers, servlet containers and web servers (Tomcat/JBoss, Nginx, Apache)
• Intermediate to expert skills in RDBMSs such as Postgresql, MYSQL, Oracle
• High level understanding of Java applications is a plus
• Expert at creating documentation
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills and collaborative spirit
• Experience as an active open source contributor is a plus

What you’ll do

• Manage production services at a large scale to ensure high availability
• Champion projects in the tools development, involving in-house solutions as well as adapting and integrating open source software
• Architect and build automated deployment pipelines in CI/CD
• Establish and enforce system monitoring tools and attain high standards. This involves building and managing monitoring dashboards to provide platform visibility ie performance status
• Work across teams to share tools and best practices
• Work closely with the developers and triage SQL queries that are to be executed in the production environments
• Establish and enforce risk assessment policies and standards
• Establish and enforce escalation policies and standards
• Streamline logs management 
• Implementation of infrastructure security from the start
• Work with devs to implement policies and workflows that allows for rollback of deployments
