    Senior Editor

    • This position shall deputise the managing editor and shall be responsible for assisting him to ensure the smooth operation of all editorial activities—including manuscript acquisition, author relations, editing, and coordination with other staff involved in the production process for books across print, audiobook, ebook, and braille formats. Additionally, the Senior Editor shall ensure that articles obtained for publication on eKitabu platforms are of superior quality, well edited, and suitably illustrated.

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Manuscript development: Work closely with authors to revise and refine the content and structure of their manuscripts. Provide feedback on the plot, character development, pacing, and overall coherence, helping authors shape their ideas into compelling stories or arguments.
    • Editing: Checking text for consistency, accuracy, and adherence to standard guidelines developed or adopted by eKitabu while correcting errors in spelling, grammar, punctuation, and formatting, thus ensuring that manuscripts meet the highest possible editorial standards.
    • Relations with staff and contractors: Maintain good working relations and collaboration with eKitabu staff, reporters, consultant editors, and other external contractors involved in the development, editing, and production process for books and editorial articles.
    • Quality Assurance: Collaborate with writers, designers, illustrators, and printers to ensure a high quality of work that will result in books produced to high standards in accord with the latest industry trends (cf. ISO Publishing Standards).
    • Book promotion: Provide editorial input on campaign strategy and promotional materials—including cover design, event flyers, and press kits—to ensure they effectively represent eKitabu books and authors to audiences.
    • Author relations: Provide support, guidance, and encouragement to authors, helping them and eKitabu mutually navigate the complexities and challenges of the publishing process and achieve their creative goals.
    • Editorial articles: Guide reporters in the development of outstanding book reviews, author profiles, and other features relevant to the publishing industry and edit these for use on eKitabu platforms.

    Qualifications:

    • Education: A liberal arts education with a first degree in journalism, publishing, communication, media studies, and related areas from a recognised university. A master’s degree will be an added advantage.
    • Experience: At least ten years’ relevant post-qualification experience as a senior editor, production editor, managing editor, or other editorial leadership position in a reputable media house, journal, university press, book publishing firm, or related industries.
