    Senior Lecturer - Religious Studies

    Duties and Responsibilities

    The successful candidate will be expected to:

    • Teach undergraduate and postgraduate students;
    • Develop client-driven quality academic programmes;
    • Promote the mission of the Department and the University;
    • Conduct quality research and scholarly publications;
    • Mentor students and junior faculty in research activities;
    • Develop teaching materials and learning resources;
    • Participate in the development of University policies and academic documentation;
    • Set, moderate, process, and mark examinations;
    • Present research papers at seminars, workshops, and conferences;
    • Advise the Head of Department and Dean on curriculum development and academic matters;
    • Participate in departmental and School meetings and activities;
    • Assist in supervising Assistant Lecturers and Tutorial Fellows;
    • Serve as an Academic Adviser to students;
    • Supervise postgraduate students in research activities;
    • Participate in outreach, church, and community engagement programmes;
    • Perform any other duties assigned by the University Management.

    Qualifications and Experience

    Applicants must possess:

    • An earned PhD in the relevant field from a recognized university:
    • PhD in Old Testament Studies;
    • PhD in Systematic Theology, Historical Theology, or related field;
    • PhD in Religious Studies or related discipline.
    • A Master’s degree with a minimum average score of B+ or equivalent in the relevant field;
    • A Bachelor’s degree with at least Second Class Upper Division or a minimum GPA of 3.0 from a recognized university;
    • KCSE mean grade of C+ or equivalent qualification;
    • Minimum of six (6) years of university teaching experience, including at least three (3) years at Lecturer level or equivalent;
    • Evidence of sustained scholarly research and publications in peer-reviewed journals;
    • Experience in postgraduate supervision and student mentorship;
    • Meets the University requirements for appointment and promotion to the rank of Senior Lecturer;
    • Registration with the relevant professional body where applicable;
    • Ordained minister of the Seventh-day Adventist Church;
    • Active member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church in regular standing;
    • Demonstrated commitment to Adventist education and values;
    • Ability to integrate faith and learning in accordance with the philosophy, mission, and values of Seventh-day Adventist higher education;
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, E-Learning platforms, Internet applications, and relevant statistical software.
