Job Description
- The Senior Librarian, KEWI 6 reports to the Principal, Librarian KEWI 5.
Duties and responsibilities at this level will entail:
- Implementing library service policies, programmes, procedures and strategies;
- Examining books for damages and repairs or facilitates repairs when needed;
- Assist in preparing exhibits, sessional displays and bulletin boards throughout the library;
- Verifying overdue books by sending reminders to library users;
- Responding to requests from students’ staff and other library users;
- Cataloguing and keeping track of library materials;
- Maintaining shelf arrangement and retrieval of information;
- Recording new publication in the register and revised holdings for latest publications;
- Facilitating library events and reading sessions;
- Educating library users on how to properly search for information using the library data base;
- Performing regular audits on information and inventory;
- Overseeing the checkout process for books and other resource materials;
- Identifying and utilizing hard copy and e-library resources;
- Retrieving of e-information for Library users;
- Promoting the library’s resources;
- Facilitating inter library networking;
- Facilitating production of projects and research materials; and
- Operating and maintaining audio visual materials.
Person Specifications
For appointment to this grade, an officer must have:
- Served for a cumulative period of six (6) years relevant work experience, three (3) of which should have been at the grade of Librarian I or in a comparable position;
- Bachelor’s degree in any of the following disciplines: Library Studies, Library Science, Information Science or equivalent qualification from a recognised Institution;
- OR
- Bachelor’s degree with a Post Graduate Diploma in any of the following disciplines:
- Library Studies, Library Science, Information Science or equivalent qualification from a recognised Institution;
- Certificate in e-library management;
- Membership to relevant professional body in good standing and where applicable;
- Proficiency in computer applications; and
- Shown Merit and ability reflected in work performance and results

In addition to the above indicated requirements, applicants will be required to meet the requirements of Chapter Six (6) of the Constitution of Kenya on Leadership and Integrity.
The following clearances will be required from successful candidates upon offer of job and not at the application stage.
- Certificate of Good Conduct;
- Clearance from the Ethics and Anti – Corruption Commission;
- Certificate of Compliance from the Higher Education Loans Board (HELB);
- Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) Tax Compliance Clearance; and
- Certificate of Clearance from the Credit Reference Bureau (CRB).
