Senior Library Assistant I Grade 8 at Kirinyaga University

Key Responsibilities    

• Ordering for new books, journals and any other periodicals/publications and materials needed in the library
• Indexing and abstracting journal articles
• Maintaining and updating University database
• Editing & compiling quarterly reports for the library section
• Stock-taking the library collection
• Charging and discharging library information resources to users
• Providing reference and referral services to library patrons
• Distributing publishers’ cataloguers to faculty deans and heads of departments
• Processing of inter-library loan requests
• Cataloguing and classification of newly acquired information resources
• Verifying bibliographic details of library materials
• Maintaining user profiles
• Selective Dissemination of Information (SDI)
• Teaching library skills and user education; and
• Offering ICT services to various categories of users
• Perform any other duties as may be assigned by the immediate supervisor

Qualifications & Skills    

• Bachelor’s degree in library studies, Library Science, Information Science or equivalent qualification from a recognized and accredited institution
• Cumulative service period of three (3) years’ relevant work experience at the grade of Library Assistant II or in a comparable position
