ROLE PURPOSE:
This role is an exciting opportunity for an engaging leader who will provide strong technical direction, inspire innovations and develop new partnerships enabling Save the Children and its partners to support children affected by humanitarian crises. The postholder will drive improved impact for children affected by emergencies through strengthening Save the Children’s Shelter response, approaches and learning and contributing to an improved humanitarian sector for children. In this role, the post-holder will coordinate across a team of technical experts, driving the future of humanitarian programming, ensuring that programs are more localized, driven by partners, diverse, inclusive and led by those affected by crises.
The post holder will drive program quality and impact in humanitarian Shelter, within the overall sector strategy. Specifically, the post holder will be accountable for developing, implementing, and overseeing the global humanitarian plan and sector strategy; strategic portfolio management and resource mobilization; people management, capacity strengthening and professional development; and sector coordination and internal and external representation.
In most circumstances, the post holder will be expected to mentor and/or capacity building existing country programme staff. The role supports national advocacy and influencing, while driving strategic partnerships for new business development. It supports the design and implementation of monitoring and evaluation systems to demonstrate impact, while sharing learning across our programmes, teams and partners. The role will also link with regional Shelter capacities where they exist, and contribute to regional learning, evidence generation and knowledge management where appropriate.
The role will work closely with operations colleagues and with partners, building their capacity and building ownership and agency of local organisations. This position will be expected to engage with the country shelter sector and coordination mechanisms, as well as represent the organisation with key stakeholders such as the Ministry of Health, UN agencies, and key INGO / CSO. The role is expected to support development, emergency preparedness, DRR and support the assessment, design and implementation of humanitarian responses with other Shelter staff in the country setting.
In the event of a major humanitarian emergency, the role holder will be expected to work outside the normal role profile and be able to vary working hours accordingly.
