    Trade and Economic Officer

    This will include:

    • provision of high quality analytics on trade and economics to shape strategy, partnerships, visibility and impact;
    • proactive engagement with development partners to enhance trade and economic outcomes particularly for women and youth
    • active engagement with businesses and business networks (including Business Ireland Kenya) to strengthen two-way trade and identify business opportunities;
    • liaison with Irish State Agencies (such as Enterprise Ireland) to connect Irish companies to partners in the region;
    • development of robust relationships with Irish and Kenyan governments, public and international institutions, trade associations, companies and universities;
    • contribute to the development and implementation of the annual business plan and the next mission strategy.

    Essential requirements candidates must be able to demonstrate:

    • Masters’ Degree in Economics, Statistics, Business Administration, International Development or any other related field
    • Minimum 5 years of work experience in the trade/commercial sector, preferably with an Embassy, international NGO, UN agency or other similar organisation
    • Demonstrable and comprehensive knowledge and understanding of foreign trade and foreign trade regulations in Kenya and the region
    • Knowledge and understanding of the relevant private and public sector actors in Kenya
    • Ability to network and to engage with diverse stakeholders including government, research institutes, media outlets, development partners, private sector representatives for shared results
    • Familiarity with programme cycle and grant management including financial analysis and budget management
    • Candidates must be able to demonstrate excellent analytical, communication, writing and reporting skills including fluent written and verbal English. Applicants may be contacted in advance to establish language proficiency and a short-written language test may be required
    • Resourceful and results-orientated, candidates should be able to demonstrate an ability to problem-solve and take initiative
    • Clear capacity to work both independently and as a team member using entrepreneurial skills to identify synergies and enhance impact
    • Candidates must be able to demonstrate a proven capacity for delivering timely results and taking responsibility for quality outcomes
    • High degree of integrity and trust
    • Proficient with MS Office Suite including Word, Excel, Outlook and Powerpoint and, ideally, social media
    • Candidates must be able to travel regularly in Kenya and, potentially internationally, up to 30 days/year
