    Head of Administration

    The Head of Administration will be responsible for driving excellence in the administration of the Embassy’s activities that fall under thir docket. To achieve this, key competencies will be required and this will include:

    • Delivery of results, ensuring high quality and optimal use of resources, with accurate monitoring and reporting.
    • Ability to progress multiple projects successfully.
    • Excellent management skills with experience of managing budgets and people.
    • Analytical and conceptual thinking, seeing relationships between issues, identifying coherent solutions; capacity to think strategically and creatively.
    • Upholds the highest standards of honesty and integrity.
    • Leadership, management and decision making.
    • Takes responsibility for challenging tasks and delivers on time and to a high standard.
    • Excellent people management skills and confidentiality.
    • Maximises the contribution of the Embassy team, encouraging ownership and providing support.
    • Strong analytical skills and the ability to present information in a clear, concise and convincing manner at a senior level.
    • Strategic thinking and ability to provide evidence-based advice to senior management.
    • Representation and networking.

    Essential requirements candidates must be able to demonstrate

    • Candidates must hold a degree, ideally in Business Administration, financial management, or Human Resource Management.
    • +10 years’ experience, out of which minimum of five years’ experience at senior level post. Candidates must demonstrate knowledge of Human Resource management skills, and financial management skills.
    • Resourceful and results-orientated, candidates should be able to demonstrate an ability to problem-solve working both independently and as a team member.
    • Demonstrable experience of dealing with Kenyan government offices, INGOs and Bilateral/Multilateral Agencies and strong network of contacts.
    • Ability to work closely and proactively with senior management.
    • Excellent interpersonal and communications skills are essential, as is a proven ability to demonstrate initiative, resourcefulness and perseverance.
    • High degree of integrity and trust and ability to maintain confidentiality over personal information and client relations.
    • Proficient with MS Office Suite including Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint; additional IT applications would be beneficial (e.g. working with datasets, social media).
    • Candidates must be able to travel in Kenya if required.
    • The successful candidate must have a legal entitlement to live and work in Kenya prior to recruitment.

    Desirable:

    • Knowledge of Human Resource management in a similar organization

    The successful candidates will be hired on an initial 2 year fixed-term contract and will be based at the Embassy Nairobi office.

    Trade and Economic Officer

    This will include:

    • provision of high quality analytics on trade and economics to shape strategy, partnerships, visibility and impact;
    • proactive engagement with development partners to enhance trade and economic outcomes particularly for women and youth
    • active engagement with businesses and business networks (including Business Ireland Kenya) to strengthen two-way trade and identify business opportunities;
    • liaison with Irish State Agencies (such as Enterprise Ireland) to connect Irish companies to partners in the region;
    • development of robust relationships with Irish and Kenyan governments, public and international institutions, trade associations, companies and universities;
    • contribute to the development and implementation of the annual business plan and the next mission strategy.

    Essential requirements candidates must be able to demonstrate:

    • Masters’ Degree in Economics, Statistics, Business Administration, International Development or any other related field
    • Minimum 5 years of work experience in the trade/commercial sector, preferably with an Embassy, international NGO, UN agency or other similar organisation
    • Demonstrable and comprehensive knowledge and understanding of foreign trade and foreign trade regulations in Kenya and the region
    • Knowledge and understanding of the relevant private and public sector actors in Kenya
    • Ability to network and to engage with diverse stakeholders including government, research institutes, media outlets, development partners, private sector representatives for shared results
    • Familiarity with programme cycle and grant management including financial analysis and budget management
    • Candidates must be able to demonstrate excellent analytical, communication, writing and reporting skills including fluent written and verbal English. Applicants may be contacted in advance to establish language proficiency and a short-written language test may be required
    • Resourceful and results-orientated, candidates should be able to demonstrate an ability to problem-solve and take initiative
    • Clear capacity to work both independently and as a team member using entrepreneurial skills to identify synergies and enhance impact
    • Candidates must be able to demonstrate a proven capacity for delivering timely results and taking responsibility for quality outcomes
    • High degree of integrity and trust
    • Proficient with MS Office Suite including Word, Excel, Outlook and Powerpoint and, ideally, social media
    • Candidates must be able to travel regularly in Kenya and, potentially internationally, up to 30 days/year
