    Urban Planning for Urban Water Resilience Intern

    Under the direct supervision of the Chief of Planning, Finance and Economy Section, the intern will contribute in the following ways;

    • Supporting the development of the technical and normative outputs of the Planning, Finance and Economy Section by assisting in gathering data, analyzing, contributing to preparation of reports and technical documents, preparation of presentations and other dissemination materials.
    • Support the task force of on Water and Cities and other teams at the Section, such as the Urban Lab, Urban Regeneration, and Public Space. 
    • Support the study on strategies and approaches to strengthen UN-Habitat’s position on Water and Cities.
    • Support the capacity building on a variety of planning themes.

    Specific Duties:

    • Support the designated, Urban Planning, Finance and Economy Section, in a mapping of projects, partners, best practices, data, and knowledge on integrated planning and management of water in cities. 
    • Support in developing inputs for urban projects and plans at various levels, workshops, surveys, assessments, trainings, and seminars.  
    • Liaises with other Sections and Units within UN-Habitat that are part of the task force on Water and Cities.
    • Assist in the development of a position paper, project concept notes, project briefs, and project documents on urban water. 
    • Write, review, post, update content and create artwork (if necessary) to post on the website.
    • Create web stories and social media posts related to the projects in PFES to be published on the official UN-Habitat platforms. 
    • Liaise with UN-Habitat Advocacy, Outreach and Communication Unit to ensure relevant content from the PFES is disseminated at the UN-Habitat corporate website, social media platforms, etc.
    • Support the compilation of a library of photos, videos and stories.
    • Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

    Task Opportunities:
    Accessibility

    • Familiarizing oneself with the United Nations Frameworks and agendas on climate change, water, and sustainable urbanization. 
    • Familiarizing oneself with thematic areas of water in cities, climate adaptation and mitigation, blue economy, urban water management, finance infrastructure and urban projects, public space, nature-based solutions, social inclusion, and human rights.  
    • Participating in dialogues with country offices, regional or local institutes, and NGOs.

    Qualifications/special skills
    Applicants must at the time of application meet one of the following requirements:

    • Be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher).
    • Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum Bachelor's level or equivalent).
    • Have graduated with Bachelor's degree, Masters, PhD or equivalent.
    • Be computer literate in standard software applications (Microsoft Office, Excel and PowerPoint).
    • Have demonstrated a keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter.
    • Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which includes a willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views.

    Preferred areas of studies:
    Urban or Territorial Planning, Urban Design, Water Planning and Management, Environmental studies, or any other related studies.

    • Applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work experience. However, a field of study that is closely related to the type of internship that you are applying for is required.
    • Applicants must be a student in the final year of the first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), Master’s or Ph.D. Programme or equivalent, or have completed a Bachelor’s, Master’s or PH.D. Programme.  Do you meet any of the above criteria? If yes, please indicate which one and attach proof to the application.     • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, GIS software such as ArcGIS, QGIS, and graphic software such as Illustrator, InDesign, and Photoshop is desirable.

    Languages

    • English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this internship position, fluency in oral and written English is required. Knowledge of another official UN language is desirable.
