    Welder/Locksmith

    Duties

    Incumbent works under the direct supervision and guidance of the Maintenance Supervisor – FSN 08; C52610

    The incumbent is employed as a journeyman level Welder/Locksmith to carry out standard welding repairs/fabrications, and repair/installations of Locks throughout the New Embassy Compound (NEC) functional/office buildings, on-compound ancillary support and residential buildings, recreational facilities, and other owned/leased properties. 

    Qualifications and Evaluations

    Requirements:

    EXPERIENCE: 
    A minimum of three (3) years’ experience working in building environment as a journeyman welder and locks installer in commercial or industrial facilities is required.

    JOB KNOWLEDGE: 

    1. Should have a general knowledge of construction, maintenance, and safety procedures in work related areas, and ability to comprehend and apply relevant safety codes.
    2. Excellent working knowledge of locks, welding, materials, mechanical tools, and equipment associated with the trade. 
    3. General knowledge painting metal surfaces.
    4. A valid driver’s license – Class BCE is required.
    5. Education Requirements:
    6. Completion of secondary school is required. Completion of vocational training program from an accredited institute recognized as producing journeyman level licensed pipe fitter or welder and locksmith trade, trained in the maintenance of commercial or industrial buildings/facilities is required.

    Evaluations:

    LANGUAGE:  

    1. English level III (Good working knowledge) Written/Speaking/Reading is required. (This may be tested)
    2. Kiswahili Level III (read/write/speak) is required.

    SKILLS AND ABILITIESl: 

    1. Read and interpret drawing and schematics
    2. Safely operate various equipment and tools used in welding and metal fabrication including band saws, grinders, drill press, chop saw and shear and be able to disassemble and reassemble various locks and associated components.
    3. Must possess good communication skills and ability to interact with customers in a constructive manner
    4. Responding to urgent situations in an efficient and timely manner to effect immediate repairs.
    5. Work in various adverse conditions such as tight or enclosed spaces, on ladders at various heights, and in temperature extremes, indoors or outdoors to complete work assignments.
    6. Communicate orally and in writing with co-workers, and vendors to obtain and provide pertinent information.
    7. Use a computer; to include MS Word and Outlook, and able to write e-mails.
    8. Typing skills required.
    9. At least five (5) years of experience driving saloon cars and pick-up trucks.

    The pay plan is assigned at the time of the conditional offer letter by the HR Office.
