    Data Scientist

    The Data Scientist position is the perfect opportunity for you. You will be a pivotal member, reporting to Head – Business Intelligence. You will be responsible for applying data mining techniques, doing statistical analysis, building high quality prediction algorithms, developing analytical reports and devising analytical solutions to use cases. The primary requirement is not related to traditional programming or systems analysis skills but to the ability to create sophisticated, value-added analytic systems that support revenue generation, risk management, operational efficiency, regulatory compliance, portfolio management, and research.

    The role

    The successful jobholder will be expected to:

     

    • Transform large, complex datasets into pragmatic, actionable insights, leverage data to identify, quantify and influence tangible business gain by performing ad-hoc analysis and presenting results in reports, dashboards and charts.
    • Implement analytical model designs, perform any restructuring required, and review dataset implementations performed by the data engineer and BI developers.
    • Selecting features, building and optimizing classifiers using machine learning techniques and Data mining using bank selected data mining tools.
    • Enhance data collection procedures to include information that is relevant for building analytic systems, Process, cleanse and verify the integrity of data used for advanced analysis by creating automated anomaly detection systems and constant tracking of its performance.
    • Improve data foundational procedures, guidelines and standards and develop best practices for data management, maintenance, reporting and security.
    • Implement statistical data quality procedures or test driven approach for quality assurance and conduct performance tuning to be able to optimize the application of statistical models and scripts
    • Design, build, and maintain various parts of the data warehousing with respect to requirements gathering, data modeling, metric establishment, reporting production, and data visualization.
    • Gather and process raw, unstructured data at scale into a form suitable for analysis then consolidate into the data warehouse in order to perform Business Intelligence and advanced analytics.
    • Evaluate datasets for accuracy and quality using statistical data quality procedures, software, or test-driven approaches that ensure quality assurance and solve any issues which may arise.
    • Assist to analyze business/use case requirements from BI analysts to determine operational problems, define data modeling requirements, gather and validate information, apply judgment and statistical tests and develop data structures to support the generation of business insights and strategy;
    • Provide test interfaces for users to test the reports and dashboards before being put on the production environment and carry out technical user training as required to enable users interpret BI solutions.
    • Develop and maintain documentation/manuals on models developed, reports generated and statistical solutions devised.
    • Assist in developing and implementing a program of continuous improvement of BI processes through a cycle of analysis of existing systems, processes, and tools, identifying areas for improvement, and implementing high-impact changes, and getting feedback from stakeholders.

    Qualifications, Skills & Attributes

    The successful jobholder will be required to possess the following qualifications: -

    • A degree in statistics, data sciences or related quantitative fields is preferred (or equivalent on-the-job experience).
    • A minimum 3-5 years of business experience as a Data Scientist or applied data experience is required.
    • Experience with relational databases such as Oracle, SQL queries, or OLAP cubes is preferred.
    • Excellent understanding of machine learning techniques and algorithms, such as k-NN, Naive Bayes, SVM and Decision Forests
    • Experience with common data science toolkits, such as R, Weka, NumPy, MatLab, etc. Excellence in at least one of these is highly desirable
    • Proficiency in using query languages such as SQL, Hive, Pig and Experience with NoSQL databases, such as MongoDB, Cassandra, HBase
    • Good applied statistics skills, such as distributions, statistical testing, regression, etc. with good scripting and programming skills
    • Knowledge of agile software development process and performance metric tools
    • Experience extracting and cleaning text in different formats e.g. HTML, pdf files
    • Proven ability to collaborate with other team members across boundaries and contribute productively to the team’s work and output, demonstrating respect for different points of view. Able to use strong interpersonal and teamwork skills to cultivate effective, productive client relationships and partnerships across organizational boundaries.

    Data Governance Analyst

    You are well experienced in guiding enterprise data management initiatives in key business areas and in operationalizing data governance and you possess expertise in creating and deploying best practices and methodologies and knowledge about managing and leading technical data analytics teams across multiple departments while keeping a strategic perspective.

    About the role

    Reporting to the Head – Data Governance & Protection, the Data Governance Analyst will be responsible for administering data policies, standards and procedure, for managing and implementing the enterprise data blueprint, for protecting data assets and stakeholder interests, and for providing support that enables data governance across the enterprise. The role holder will also co-ordinate data stewardship and the governance organization towards setting policies, standards, architecture, and procedures, as well as resolving data related issues. The data organization includes data stewards, platform stewards, lead data stewards, and the Data Governance Council.

    The Role

    Specifically, the successful jobholder will be required to:

    • Drive the implementation and application of the enterprise data governance program.
    • Create and maintain data governance processes, rules, policies, standards and practices.
    • Coordinate and plan the Data Governance Sessions, meetings committees and councils
    • Work with the business units and corporate functions to establish effective data stewardship framework that work closely with the Data Governance Council.
    • Define and implement key data governance tools to support the processes.
    • Support strategic direction by drawing on information from multiple sources and using guidelines to analyze what information is important and how it should be used.
    • Communicate data governance initiatives and programs confidently in a clear, concise and articulate manner, selecting the most appropriate medium for conveying information, and structuring written and oral communication to ensure clarity.
    • Contribute content to internal collaborative content platforms to support engagement with data stakeholders.
    • Evangelize the concept of “data as an asset” and the value of understanding the quality of data.
    • Support the data management office and data stewards to ensure data assets comply with all governance policy, regulations, agreements, and business rules.
    • Contribute in the communications plan that keeps stakeholders updated on enterprise data governance.

    Skills, Competencies and Experience

    • A degree in information management, organization governance, or related management fields is preferred. Possession of MBA will be an added advantage.
    • A minimum of three (3) year experience in data management, data analytics, or enterprise data governance. Experience with SQL strongly preferred.
    • Any database administration certification will be an added advantage.
    • Basic knowledge and understanding of data governance and data quality and how they affect business decisions.
    • Ability to design and recommend governance structures and control frameworks for the ongoing management of data
    • Experience in guiding enterprise data management initiatives in key business areas and in operationalizing data governance.

    The Role

    Specifically, the successful jobholder will be required to:

    • Creation, scheduling, testing, deployment, and maintenance, of data pipeline from different source to required destination with the required transformations for reporting (ETL).
    • Deployment of data science models.
    • Identify, analyze and interpret trends or patterns in complex data sets using statistical techniques and provide reports. Acquire data from primary or secondary data sources, maintain databases/data systems, and apply ETL procedures to normalize data.
    • Gather information from business users to understand their detailed requirements and expectations, analyze business/use case requirements from BI analysts to determine operational problems, define data modelling requirements, gather and validate information, apply judgement and statistical tests and develop data structures to support the generation of business insights and strategy.
    • Carry out analysis of requirements and recommend solutions to address user requirements. Manage the queue of requests and communicate to the appropriate advanced analytics, BI or data management functions.
    • Assist in preparing system definition/specification by the users highlighting technical requirements and roll out BI Solutions to stakeholders. Assist in developing and implementing a program of continuous improvement of BI processes through a cycle of analysis of existing systems, processes and tools, identifying areas for improvement, implement high impact changes and get feedback from stakeholders. Make changes to system/database configurations and parameters to accommodate business and technological requirements.
    • Build visualizations to summarize and make presentations to business and other key stakeholders. Filter, clean data and review reports, print outs and performance indicators to locate and correct code problems.
    • Secure BI solutions by putting adequate controls and restrict access to programs by users in accordance to the requirements of the Bank.
    • Understand Key Performance Measures and Indicators that drive company performance measurement and reporting as well as analytics across functions and understand how these metrics and measures align and track against overall business strategies, goals and objectives.
    • Guide the business in drawing report formats & wireframes and advice on the best approach to transform data and automate reports as well as Design and code reports/dashboards according to user specification with the key objective to deliver reports that will assist in decision-making and control.
    • Develop and maintain documentation/manuals on system configuration or set up, carry out technical user training as required to enable users interpret BI reports as well as deal with data, dashboards and report queries from users and resolve or advise them accordingly.

    Skills, Competencies and Experience

    The successful candidate will be required to have the following skills and competencies:

    • Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science, IT, Software Engineering, or any other degree in related fields.
    • A minimum of 3 years’ experience in Data engineering, BI & Software Development using Oracle.
    • Strong knowledge and experience with ETL tools (Oracle ODI, Microsoft SSIS,Talend), query languages (Oracle PL/SQL, SQL), programming languages (Java, C# )
    • Experience with relational data modeling, data management and data processing. Knowledge of statistics and experience using statistical packages in analyzing large data sets (Python, SPS, SAS, Excel etc.) will be an added advantage.
    • Knowledge of Big data tools (Hadoop, Apache Hive, Scala, Kafka, Apache Spark) will be an added advantage
    • Knowledge of visualization tools (OBIEE, Admin tool, Power BI, SSRS, Tableau, click view)
    • Technical expertise regarding data models, database design development, data mining and segmentation techniques is desired.

    Business Intelligence Developer

    Reporting to Head – Business Intelligence Unit, the developer will be responsible for detailed analysis, design and development of business intelligence systems, dashboards and reports. Additionally, he/she will be required to maintain and support applications within this section and will therefore be required to have knowledge working within the agile methodology keeping in mind quality control plans within the developments to identify improvements. 

    The role

    • Develop and implement Business intelligence reports, dashboards and other solutions that ensure business optimization and requirements fulfillment.
    • Analyze business/use case requirements from BI analysts to determine operational problems, define data modeling requirements, gather and validate information, apply judgment and statistical tests and develop data structures to support the generation of business insights and strategy.
    • Filter, “clean” data, and review reports, printouts, and performance indicators to locate and correct code problems;
    • Identify, analyze, and interpret trends or patterns in complex data sets as well as interpret the data and analyze results using statistical techniques and provide ongoing reports.

    • Develop and maintain documentation/manuals on system configuration or setup in addition to building reusable code and libraries for future use.
    • Assist in developing and implementing a program of continuous improvement of BI processes through a cycle of analysis of existing systems, processes, and tools, identifying areas for improvement, and implementing high-impact changes, and getting feedback from stakeholders.
    • Understand Key Performance Measures and Indicators that drive company performance measurement, reporting, and analytics across functions and understand how these metrics and measures align and track against overall business strategies, goals and objectives.
    • Rollout Business intelligence solutions to stakeholders and provide test systems for UAT to ensure that functions/features are tested before go-live.
    • Secure systems by putting adequate controls and restrict access to programs by users in accordance to the requirements of the bank.
    • Strict adherence to all regulations, statutes, standards, practices and all internal processes and procedures as per the relevant manuals and comply with all relevant external legislation and regulations with regard to Compliance requirements.

    Qualifications, Skills & Attributes

    The successful jobholder will be required to possess the following qualifications: -

    • Bachelor of Science Degree in Computer Science or related degree from a recognized university with experience in software development knowledge.
    • Minimum 3 years’ experience in software development, data analysis and reporting with a proven record of accomplishment.

    • Technical expertise regarding warehouse design, dimensional modelling and data mining techniques.
